Toyota has just revealed the new 2024 Tacoma giving us the best glimpse yet into the 4Runner's future. Here's the official overview video.
Key takeaways:
V6 has indeed been replaced with a turbocharged four cylinder as predicted/feared.
Toyota still doesn't have an electric drivetrain.
Overlanding and offroading will be such a focus for Toyota that there is now a trim above TRD Pro.
33-inch tires are available stock.
Interior features have become important.
Toyota has officially partnered with ARB for suspension and accessories options.
The Raptor light grill mod has become an official thing.

A few thoughts after watching the car and driver video.
The limited would actually be a good option for me, but god they made it ugly with all the chrome. I wonder how much it will cost to dechrome it and make it look more like a pro or offroad?
Aside from that on the LTD I would prefer the all time 4wd b/c its better for snow and the suspension is better suited for my lifestyle.
Why not go ahead and tuck the exhaust on all the trucks?
The suspension seat in the TRDPro is a cool idea, I wonder which other trims that is in? the red interior on the Pro is godawful. I would hate to have to see that every day.
The auto open/close tailgate is just dumb dumb dumb. I expect that to be the first thing to break on these.
I love the 465 ft/lb torque.
We have been thinking of getting the Lexus TX next, but yesterday I was at the lumber yard and that rear window on the 4runner is so damn handy that I can't imagine not having it.
Not sure what I'll do. Maybe I'll wait to see what the GX/LC/4R turns out to be.
Yeah, the red trim is awful to my eyes. I would not do that but the powerful hybrid motor is appealing. It will be interesting to see how it does when it comes out. I have my eyes on a Rubicon 392 next, but I like options.
I’ll be honest. After seeing that Trailhunter edition Tacoma, I might betray you all and defect. I’m going to wait to see what they do to the 6th Generation 4Runner before ordering though. Hoping there will be a 4Runner Trailhunter available in this exact color scheme with the bronze wheels and heritage badges.
I've never been in the market for a pickup but, even if I were, the 2024 Taco would be a hard no for me.
If it appeals to you, God speed.

Maybe I am old-fashioned but I assume the Limited would come with that horrific 14" monitor clogging up the dashboard. It is a vertical laptop staring them in the face when they drive.
No judgment, I simply would be distracted to the point of insanity.

Interesting video. What i find interesting from video is that although Land Cruiser/LX, Sequoia, Tundra, and Tacoma all share the same platform, the frame strength and steel gauge are all different between them. So you cannot say that Lexus LX frame is the same as the lesser brothers.
This may be old news for some of you and probably obvious, but it was good to hear from Toyota engineer.

The red trim is awful to everyone's eyes. I think they borrowed that from Lexus. The GX has the same gaudy color.
