I would probably go back to a V8 F150 FX4 for a truck or a Mustang Darkhorse for a car.

I just saw a 4 door Bronco today- grey paint with a white top and white wheels. It was pretty sharp.

If there's one thing I could change about my 2022 4Runner Off-Road it would be to replace it's lethargic 4.0 V6 with the Ford 3.5 Ecoboost engine. I bought a 2016 F150 with that engine back in May 2016 and in 7+ years and 70,000+ miles the truck has been flawless. All I've ever had to do is change oil/filters and rotate the tires. With a 36 gallon tank I regularly go over 600 miles between fillups, and sometimes over 700 miles. That engine just makes me smile every time I drive the truck, it moves the truck so effortlessly. Hope to keep this F150 for many more years. Only reason I bought the 4Runner was...I saw it and liked what I saw so decided to try it.

I'd want to step back a little: 1980 Chevy Luv 4WD, MT.
I had one, it worked very nicely for me. Only thing I didn't like was having to clean and set the points. Once a week, generally, although if I didn't drive it too much, I could stretch it out to once a month.
I take that back, it had another problem. It would drift out of 4th gear as I drove it. Maybe a few miles. I never did figure out the problem. Stupidly, I took it to Midas, in Yuma. They stole my jack, and tool box I kept behind the seat. They didn't fix the problem, but did make it so that the back up lights no longer worked, and the trans no longer would shift into 4H. I took it back, they did fix the back up lights, but none f the rest. They tried to charge me $1200.00. I didn't pay them, and when the corporate office called me, I told them what happened. They told me that there was no longer any charge, and I found out both the guys that worked there got fired. I still didn't take it back. Eventually I turned it in for $2000.00 trade in on my 1987 Toyota Hilux. I still have it, and I love that little truck. We've been through a LOT together since I got it. When I give it up, it goes to my middle daughter. She learned to drive in it, learned to worked on vehicles, and wants her sons to learn MT in it.
Anywho, that's my choice, the Chevy Luv.

I just bought a '23 4Runner ORP and sold my '16 4Runner TEP, but I think a new Rubicon 392 would be fun.
"The Rubicon 392 is the highest performance Wrangler Jeep has ever produced. On the outside there is a triple-hoop steel bumper, hood scoop, bead-lock wheels, rock sliders and quad-tipped exhaust. On the inside you will be greeted by a special interior, 8.4in infotainment system and onboard air compressor. Under the hood is a 6.4L Hemi V8 that churns out 470HP. Is the 2023 Jeep Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary Edition a muscle car Wrangler?"

This 2016 TEP w/KDSS is a big step up from the 1986 Subaru GL wagon I used on the Outer Banks beaches for 14 years. That thing would go anywhere in the sand on 185/70-13 tires. Dual range 5 speed, factory skid plate, 3 position manually adjustable rear shocks and armored exhaust. All factory, including the white spoke wheels. The front sub frame finally rusted apart.

Been a Jeep Wrangler owner for many years...still own a 2006 Rubicon. I wanted to get a newer one because they are a lot more comfortable and roadable compared to my '06 but after spending a bunch of time on the Jeep forums and reading about all the problems (mostly electrical, but death wobble is still a real thing even in a brand new Jeep) I changed my mind and bought my 4Runner. I want something to drive, not something to work on!
How'd you like to see this message come up on your vehicle when you're 100 miles from the nearest help? (Posted on one of the Jeep forums)

I would waste my money on an Audi S or RS model (whatever I could afford.)

an F150 or 250 4door, 4WD...something without a turbo engine, i guess one of the bigger V8s.
I have a 2003 F150 thats still giving me good local miles of hauling this and that.

No Fords. Too many issues with their heads blowing spark plugs out. They STILL Haven't fixed that, among other issues.
I would get a new Chevy 2500HD with the biggest gas engine and Allison transmission, and the heaviest towing package available. Diesel is a waste of money, unless you are hauling for money and can write it all off. You MIGHT save a few bucks in the long run when you figure the difference in fuel costs, maintenance, and initial purchase price of a Diesel.

???I'd like to know where you got your data for that statement. Yes, Ford had a series of engines late '90s early 2000s that had problems due to a stupid head design and a stupid spark plug design but that was 20 years ago. I'm a gearhead - I follow all the forums having to do with trucks and I haven't seen one mention of this happening in vehicles built after about 2002.

I loved my Mazda 3, really great reliable and fun car i would love to have again.
But I want an off road vehicle and the only thing that would compare is a Jeep. Not sure what model, likely a Wagoneer since IMO is the most similar in size. But I would have to mod it a bit for off roading.

Grand Cherokee is probably closest in size to a 4Runner actually. The Wrangler Unlimited is just a touch smaller if you look at dimensions also, but not packaged as well as the 4Runner to optimize interior volume.
The Jeep Wagoneer is derived off the same platform as the Ram. It's huge compared to a 4Runner, around 6 inches wider and 2 feet longer.
