Keeping 2020 4R for a long time

After hearing all the horror stories about engine failures on the newest third generation Tundra, when the new 4R comes out with turbos and all that other nonsense think I will keep my 2020 TRD ORP for a long time !

Don’t buy a new model for at least one year after its introduction. Let some other people be beta testers to work out the bugs.

4Runners in general are 20-25 year vehicles with proper care and maintenance and who needs a bunch of electronic gizmos just to say " I have them"?

Yep. Long lived vehicles. I’ve had three generations. 1st Gen for 13 years , 3rd Gen for 18 years, 5th Gen for 6 years and counting. I’ll let others ring out the 6th Gen problems for 5 years or so until I’m ready to buy.

Similar to me.
1st gen for 21 years
2nd gen about 3 months (it wasn't "bad" it just wasn't "good" either)
3rd gen 13 years
In my 5th gen now for just over a year

My '18 SR5 has 56,000 miles. I'm a senior citizen. I don't see the need to get rid of it, nor do I want to. I've been very happy with it.

I was lucky to find a 2019 1 year ago with 10.5K.
Just what I was looking for too. TRD Off Road. Nautical Blue (not a dealbreaker but definitely my favorite color) No premium, no (faux) leather, no sunroof, and last year before all the safety sensing program nonsense began. Old tried and true drivetrain still made in Japan.

And I'm old enough that this just might be my last vehicle.

That's a nice score!

much has been said on this subject. When I look at the price of something new-ish and then the cost of tags, insurance and such. It's not very attractive. Besides I really don't like all the hi-tech stuff anyway. It's just something else to go wrong that is hard (and expensive) to fix. Keep it simple and it will be reliable and work a long time.

We just scored a loaded 23' ORP which is our 5th 4Runner and 3rd 5th gen. I was going to wait for the 6th gen but decided the deal was to good on the 23'. Just finished up lift and some other stuff and really liking the KDSS ride!

98' SR5
04' SR5
11' SR5(car toys ruined electrical trying to install remote star)
13' SR5
23' ORP
