4RUNNER Tailgate Badging

Why are the two n’s lower case letters on the tailgate badging? I’ve never paid any attention to this before, but my neighbor noticed, and asked me a few days ago, and I was unable to answer.

Additionally, it looks like it could be argued that the U (u) is also lower case, and they just used one of their lower case n’s and turned it upside down.

Kind of a hodge podge of caps / lower case letters back there.

All vehicle emblems are designed by the manufacture in their design department. I feel a group of engineers that are highly paid by Toyota try to design their emblems with much thought and want an emblem that is different than just a name, in other word when you look at their emblem just by design of the letters is says Toyota 4Runner. No difference than Jeep and not JEEP, Kia of course their new emblem which says Kia, but very different looking with the letters done very modern looking. All manufacture what their emblem or logo on their products to identify their product by sight and not so much how it is spelled, or written correctly.

There is a trademark issue with any badging to prevent anyone else from using it. There is a specific font, size and sometimes colors, depending on where the logo is used.

I've never thought of it either but it's an example of "stylization." Kind of like the names various musical artists use. For example, Eminem = M&M or MM which are the initials for Marshall Mathers.

I wish there were a replacement tailgate trim piece that was smooth and completely eliminated the letters. I prefer that clean look.

oh the irony...the OP is posting about the format of the 4r logo and yet his picture needs to be rotated to landscape.

Click on the paperclip, not the image icon. You want to attach from your device and not from a picture on the Internet (unless that's where it is)

Click on Browse to locate the picture, select it, press Upload (uploads) press 'close window'.

How ironic... the original poster is discussing the format of the 4R logo while their own picture needs to plinko be rotated to landscape orientation.

As an engineer myself, I can promise you we don't get any say in logo design, naming, marketing, etc.

Well, there are real engineers and then there are software engineers. And train engineers of course.

AND THEN we have...

"Marketing engineers are an essential part of a company's marketing team because they apply technical knowledge to sales and marketing campaigns."

As to the original question, I can't see the hind end of the truck from the driver's seat, so I don't much care what's back there. Unless I'm towing my boat, then I care what's behind me.

This 2016 TEP w/KDSS is a big step up from the 1986 Subaru GL wagon I used on the Outer Banks beaches for 14 years. That thing would go anywhere in the sand on 185/70-13 tires. Dual range 5 speed, factory skid plate, 3 position manually adjustable rear shocks and armored exhaust. All factory, including the white spoke wheels. The front sub frame finally rusted apart.

I'm the kind that requires an engineering degree ;)

This is the first time I've heard the term "marketing engineer," but a quick look at the career description makes it sound like they aren't involved in designing logos either. Sounds like they're essentially data/business analysts, not graphic designers.
