Any Tacoma owners on here?

My imported Hilux Surf (For some reason they dropped the 4Runner name for the non-US markets, although they were called that here in the 90s when they were officially imported - we never got the 4th gen onwards) is a 2WD 2.7 with no low ratio, I found out by digging around it's a common Tacoma configuration.

I don't think it was ever offered in the US...why would you guys need a small engine?

There are no zerks on the prop-shaft, which puzzled me for a bit while laying underneath it with my grease gun.

I suppose I could find a Tacoma forum, but I like it here.

I gave my '02 Tacoma TRD 4x4 pickup to my grandson when I purchased my '18 4Runner SR5. It's still in the family.

Sounds like they are as reliable and durable as you would expect!

I kept it stock, it had a high percentage of medium and rough off road use. V6, 5-speed manual. It has more than 250,000 miles, still on its original clutch, brakes and the AC has never been serviced. Only consumables replaced (batteries, tires, shocks). The only repair was a torn steering rack boot that I ripped off road when a pine tree branch laying in the trail turned and another small branch tore through it. I put the truck on its side once (a shelf road sloughed off and tipped me over), my grandson yanked someone stuck and that vehicle came back and took out the grill and lights. It's been fixed and back on the road.

That's had some impressive use! Bodes well for mine considering it has possibly just spent its life bimbling around Japan. No off-roading use I think, as it's 2WD.

Just keep a close eye on the frame. For a number of years USA Taco's had such a terrible problem with frame rust they ended up replacing frames on thousands of them and buying back thousands more that were too far gone.

2WD 4th Gen T4Rs don't have zerks on the drive shaft, BUT 4WD do have them.

Yes when the weather is nicer I hope to get underneath and give it all a thorough undersealing. I use high-quality permanent stuff in box sections etc, and a semi-permanent lanolin based one for areas where it can easily be reapplied. This seems like a good balance as the permanent stuff can cause rust to form underneath, hidden.

It's one less thing to maintain I suppose. Shame about the box full of grease guns and NLGI2 greases I have left over...

Out of curiosity I looked today and it doesn't seem to have XREAS...this pleases me as it's hopefully made replacing suspension components when the time comes a lot easier.

XREAS seems to have been a 4Runner/Hilux Surf thing only.

The Hilux pickup truck never had it, as it has leaf springs at the back.
