Will the new 2025 4 Runner follow in the 2024 Tacoma footsteps
I've been watching several videos on YouTube about the new 2024 Tacoma's and from not selling because of higher prices, mechanical failures, and the 4-cylinder turbo engine not what the Tacoma buyers wanted, will this carry on to the 2025 4 Runner buyers. Several videos talked about these things that are reasons for the Tacoma's lost sales, but price and the 4-cylinder turbo were the top reasons for the Tacoma's downward sales figures. Looks like Toyota is going to put the 4-cylinder turbo engine in everything they build, maybe not such a good idea for the buying public, we don't get much of a choice anymore, do we. Just like "the car care nut" on YouTube says, turbos are going to cost you more to repair in the long run and owing one of these vehicles just be prepared to spend some $$$$$$$ down the road. Now to make things worse, they are now using this engine in some of the Lexus models, my wife may have to drive her V6 Lexus forever, my 2024 4 Runner will probably be around forever to. One last thing, fuel mileage is not that much better with the new 4-cylinder engine, most said they would rather have the V6 and pay the difference in price, I would.

I would say you are pretty much correct in your thinking. I watch many of the same youtube videos you do it seems and Toyota appears to have taken a step backwards in some respects and their new models aren't doing anything for their good reputation. But, it is what it is, and if it weren't for many of the government regulations that auto manufacturers have to work under I don't think we would see some of these changes. Time will tell how these products fare, in the meantime, I have no plans to replace my '03 4Runner ... ever.

Yes, frame mounted bumpstops are gone. The front shock has an internal bumpstop which puts all upward force on the top hat, which they chose to make out of what appears to be a cast alumimnum ring and it fails readily off road allowing the top of shock to travel up and hit the fender liner. Well thought out!

To some, the Tacoma being built exclusively in Mexico now is a turn off. As such, however, with the lower wages in Mexico, you’d think Toyota would hold the line more on prices. Instead, 2024 Tacoma prices are many thousands of dollars more than the previous gen.

FWIW 2024+ Tacoma is built in Mexico, while the 2025 4Runner will be built in Japan. To me, that is a big difference in favor of the 4R.

rather than risk a version 1.0 and an increased price I bought a 2024 that I just picked up last Friday, I'm pretty stoked, I traded in a 2018 Tacoma

You did the right thing. Never buy the first (or even second) year of a new version of a vehicle.
There will be problems, and it make take 1 or 2 years for all the issues to be identified and resolved.

Toyota is still one of the only manufacturers that I still trust, but they have dropped the ball on their new designs. Hopefully they get it figured out, but that is why I decided to get a 24 4R, instead of waiting for the new one... That and the outrageous price hike.

Manufacturers tend to claim smaller engines produce less emissions. 4cyl turbo probably emits less emissions than V6 in a test environment. However, those i know with Ecoboost Ford turbos rarely see the promised gas mileage.
I have owned two different first year models. Both were very problematic.
