Question for Impact Driver Guru's (Battery Operated)

Looking for some input on this Makita 1/2 inch socket impact. First reason being I have a few 18v batteries already and other tools in the line.
Would this be strong enough for brake and suspension work on the 4R? Hoping to do more of my own work this summer.
Battery operated to stay mobile and keep compact.
Thanks!

Since this isn't generation specific, moving to General Discussion where others can benefit.

Im confused by the pic. that looks like the impact driver but is labelled as wrench. which is less powerful than the impact wrench. if you need high torque I think you're going to want the impact wrench. the impact driver is better for hard to reach areas that don't require as much torque

I think for brake and suspension work you want the wrench with more torque.

either way makita is one of the top brands just make sure you're getting the right tool (driver vs. wrench) but honestly if budget allows get both and invest in your DIY tool set if you plan to use it frequently. never underestimate having the right tool for the job lol , it can save a lot of headache . sometimes you need the wrench, sometimes the driver

I do have a Tektron 250 ft lb torque wrench also for anything needed over 155 ft lbs fastening.

Some videos I've seen of removing the bolts on the lower control arms and for the brake calipers are a bit challenging even w a breaker bar. Thought it may be worth adding this to the tool lineup if it's powerful enough for off..

interesting, I see makita also calls it a wrench but I've seen that before on their site under the pictures of impact drivers. this is the wrench I was thinking about

DTW301XVZ - 430ft lbs of release torque and 200+lbs fastening

Yeah, more power and only $29 more. Thanks for sending, this is the model I'm going to research and probably go with.

Or another step up to the XWT18Z: 520 ft.lbs of Fastening Torque and 740 ft.lbs release < that should be all I ever need I would think, applying a good penetrant for anything older or rusty/corrosion, but we try to avoid that as much as possible.

That particular Makita has barely enough power to do much of anything, much less bust loose a rusted bolt. If you're going to spring for a Makita impact, at least go for the XWT08Z with 1180 lb-ft of reverse torque.

👍🏻 the XWT08Z isn't that much more and special deal with free 5ah battery and charger.

Rigid makes a good mid-sized 1/2” torque wrench for a good price with lifetime warranty:

Amazon.com

Rated at 650 ft lbs break away torque and 400 ft lbs on torque. You could do crank shaft bolts with it. I keep one in every vehicle that goes long distance and/or off-road because my wife can handle this size.

Bear in mind that, while 1,000 lb. ft breakaway is awesome,
the tool is much larger (and heavier) and will be harder
to reach certain spots under the vehicle.

Most current Mid-torques will do same the job in less space,
even if you need to let the gun run for a few more seconds.

I don't have a battery powered impact driver, but I do have an air impact driver, so can't speak on that. One thing I do watch is "C & C Equipment" on YouTube, they are an HD equipment service company and they use mainly Milwaukee battery powered tools in their shop, they do use several different tools and they always go for the Milwaukee when they want the power tool that works.
