6-speed Auto Transmission

In a fantasy world:

I wonder how much MPG would be gained if Toyota decided to go to a 6 speed auto (like the new Sequoia) in the current generation 4 Runner only on the V8. Would it be a worthwhile upgrade?

What would you prefer?

6 speed mated to existing 4.7 L V8
5 Speed mated to new 5.7L V8 (less economical)

I dont think it would be any better. Gears 5 and 6 are OD gears on the trans and 4th gear is direct drive gear. I dont think that the torque on V8 is enough to cruise in 6th gear. Keep in mind cruising cruising at around 70 RPM's are around 2.2k and at about 80mph RPM's are around 2.5k. With that trans RPM's would be too low and the truck would constant hunt for gears around 70mph unless you like to drive at 85...which i do lol.

Keep in mind that the 5.7l has 380hp and 411ft/lb of torque....not a forged iron block though....not wild about that.

Could the V6 sustain cruising speed without hunting for gears if it were turning at 1500 RPM at 70 MPH? I assumed the V8 had more torque and could sustain an RPM lower than 2000.

But it could be like others have said that the 6 speed would not even be suitable for the 4.7L V8 for the same reason

Re: 6-speed Auto Transmission

Wouldn't that be something if Toyota offered one (or both) of these?

My preference, of the two, would be:

6 speed mated to existing 4.7 L V8
