I hated the thin, plastic steering wheel that came with my 2004 SR5 so I instead of spending a few hundred $ to replace it, I purchased a leather steering wheel cover from
Wheelskins that I installed this weekend.
I ordered the EuroPerf cover, which provides the perfect level of tactile feedback through perforated leather on the sides and smooth leather on the top & bottom. After the installation, I now have a thicker steering wheel that has a much nicer feel since it's true leather.
I ordered an extra thread and needle so that I could attach the leather cover using the
Baseball Stitch Method.
Overall, this mod is cheap (<$45, including shipping) and the results are great. The only drawback is that you will have to sew the leather cover onto the existing wheel, which can take anywhere from an hour (for the loop stitch) to several hours for the baseball stitch.
