GX470 Question

I hate to bring this up in General Discussion, but I'm trying to get some traffic since I can't seem to find the answer i need anywhere on the internet.

Can you add an aftermarket head unit to a 2003-2005 Lexus GX470 that does not have Navi or the Mark Levinson Package? I'll post a pic to show you as an example.

Now, with this audio setup could you use an aftermarket DD (double-din) head unit??

Thanks for the help in advance.

oh and by the way, the main reason I want to see if this is possible is for iPod connectivity. I don't like the nav system since I'm attached to my garmin therefore don't need one if I decide to buy the GX. But, at the same time I don't want to use one of the VAIS systems since I don't like the way they work and I don't really want to use an FM transmitter. Thanks

Lastly. Does anyone know if an Harmon Kardon Drive n Play 2 would work well? thanks

I just looked at Crutchfield, and interestingly, they don't have any help on this one. Usually they're a fantastic source of information about aftermarket stereos, but the GX seems to have thrown them a little bit.

There's another really good forum site like this one for Lexus, so that might be worth a shot. It's ClubLexus, http://www.clublexus.com.

Yes you can, but parts will need to be bought for a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120. Ebay Australia might be a good place to start.

(ignore the lower headunit)

as you can see the upper navigation unit is a standard double din size slot for the prado

I would look for some confirmation before doing that. The main problem is the wiring harness, no one really makes harnesses for Lexus'

And surprisingly, the lexus and toyota wiring harnesses are not the same. When I was looking for a harness for an LX470, I couldn't find one anywhere, and the harness for the Land Cruiser is different. Knowing that, I would be surprised if the prado and GX470 harnesses are the same.

The most likely solution is probably to just get a wiring diagram, cut the harness and match up the wires to whatever aftermarket unit you get. If you don't want to do that yourself, most install shops will.

ok well really and truely i'm fed up with looking i'll probably just go with a T4R way more customizable and I don't have to worry if something will fit plus i've gotten over the gx470 deal the T4R has more technology than the lexus.
