got me a new rash

this was a nice surprise to come out to after a day of shopping at my local Lowes, and of course there was no note.

Lowes doesnt have cameras in the lumber section of their parking lot so this little trip is going to set me back a few hundred dollars to get fixed.

When I first read the title, I thought I was going to have to recommend some cortisone cream or maybe a trip to your local clinic.

Yeah dude, that blows! I hope it works out well without setting you back too much $$$. Have you got any quotes yet?

Like I told you when we talked on Saturday, I think every A-Hole that breaks into cars or damages another person's vehicle without leaving a note should be dragged out into the street and....

I strongly doubt a body shop and/or an insurance company would scrap that bumper for a dent that size. A new, OEM bumper skin would be expensive. Add that to other parts, materials, and labor and you're easily looking at over $1k. My suggestion to lefty would be push for a new OEM bumper skin from Toyota if insurance is covering it and the body shop agrees, or just have the bumper repaired if you are paying for it out of pocket. Body shops can do amazing things these days and while it sucks bad that something like this happened, I am confident it will come back, new bumper or not, as good as new.

Below is a pic of what happened to my 4R last year at my dealer when I brought it in for service. When the body shop the dealer took my 4R told me that they were using the same bumper skin I thought "no way is it going to come out the way it was". Well, after giving it the critical eye after I got it back, I was pleasantly surprised to see the results.

After damage occurred.

After the repairs.

that sucks man. I hate a$$holes who mess up people's rides and don't fess up.

I'd probably look into a bumper repair person if you're gonna pay for it out of pocket.

From the pics, it even looks like you may be able to push the dent out and polish it yourself?

weird, i didnt get any emails on responses to this? ive received other emails but none for this thread...maybe i need to subscribe to it.

i was thinking i could pop it out myself too but the paint is cracking underneath it so i will for sure need to get it painted. if i can pop it out myself for the winter time i may just hold off until spring to get it painted. i called toyota and a new OEM skin will be $325 unpainted, my friend who works at a shop is working on a price to paint it. i trust she can get it to match since they do a lot of pearl and flake custom paint jobs at her shop.

it sucks, but im not letting it get me down or ruin my week. nothing i can do about it now...but if i find that person hes going to get a beating.

The other problem with just trying to pop it out is that it will more than likely require heat which would further damage the paint. Also, I believe their is a plastic mold or hardened foam peice that is directly behind that section of bumper that provides support and helps maintain the shape of the bumper. If that is the case in that section of bumper, it would make it difficult to get behind the bumper and pop that out.

Have you talked to your insurance company yet? It might be easier to just pay your comprehensive deductible to get it all squared away at once. Plus, they will probably cover a rental car for the day(s) that you will be without your 4R.

Damn, no cameras in the lumber section!? Lowe's should have at least comp'd you some plastic epoxy and paint I wonder why Toyota didn't stick with the 3 piece bumper like the 3rd gen. I would pop it out myself initially, then if you don't like it you can get it painted. Now that I look at the pic again, that dent is so low someone may have known they hit you, looked in the mirror and saw no damage, then peaced out. I like to think that most people would take responsibility for cracking into someone else's vehicle.
