Hit a deer...

Early Saturday morning (12:30 to 12:45 a.m.) going East on I-94 through Michigan. Impact occurred immediately before exit 52 in the middle of nowhere. At least no one was injured and the 4Runner is not totaled. Body shop in Kalamazoo said it would take around 15 days to repair once all parts are received. Thus far no trouble from my insurance company as to having things repaired...
If anyone has advice as to dealing with their auto insurance in relation to repairs feel free to chime in.

dealing with the insurance company shouldn't be a problem, as long as you were on paved road and sober at the time of the accident. you're still going to have to pay your deductible though, so that sucks. That looks like about $1500-$1800 in damage.

Did you stop to run over it again?? I would have peeled out on top of that dumb animal.. never ceases to amaze me how re****ed deer and elk are... natural selection at its finest ... I use to drive down the county highway and intentionally hit all the deer on the road.. had a good heavy bumper and didn't really care about destroying my truck lol ... fun times.. anyways.. glad no injuries were inflicted and I second the above mentioned perfect chance to lift her now...

Welcome to Michigan!
The deer are realy moving this time of year, had to slam on the brakes 4-5 times in the last couple of weeks. Big doe was 4' in front of my bumper when I came to a stop yesterday morning.

Damn, that sucks!!!

Glad no one was injured (except for the deer ).

There is a decent amount of work on your 4Runner. Talk to the body shop, ask if they will waive the deductible.

Good luck, and post the pictures after the truck is fixed.

$1500 - $1800? That may cover the bumper. I think you are looking at around $3000 or more. However, the deductible is still the same. Glad you did not loose control of the vehicle and not get hurt.

Good luck getting it fixed.

Right on. You are looking at several thousand dollars worth of damage there. Just from the picture, the front bumper (and most likely the absorber and reinforcement bar), the left fender, hood, grille, and left headlamp all need replacement.

Looks like the damage has gotten into your rad support... not just looking at cosmetic damage here...

A good body shop will be able to fix this without a problem. I would make sure to have them check the alignment as well.

Unless your policy is worded differently, unfortunately you will most likely have to pay your comprehensive deductible. Even though the accident was not your fault, the way auto policies are worded, this is generally the case.

Good luck with the repairs!

Boy you got him good!

Glad nobody was hurt, a good body shop should be able to make that look like new again.

Glad no one was hurt and your 4Runner is in repairable condition.

I would make sure they're using OEM replacement parts rather than aftermarket. Some insurance companies will use aftermarket, while you need to ask for OEM parts. Others will make you cover the difference between OEM and aftermarket. Mine is the former, and the rep said, we use aftermarket, but the policy holder has the right to ask for OEM replacement parts.

Good luck.

Tell them that you're looking at a few different places and see if they're willing to wave the deduct.

Glad you're O.K. Good luck with the fix.
