Popular Mechanics Addresses Gas Pedal Issue

Good article from PM. I trust what this author has to say a lot more than I do some of the "talking heads" I've seen on T.V. And Congress? Forget it.

I posted this on the TTORA forum as well, because I also own a Tacoma.

Basically, this guy says "no way" to the people claiming that they are sitting at a red light, foot on brake, and the vehicle suddenly takes off on it's own.

Enjoy:

It is refreshing to see that there are intelligent journalists out there who understand the necessity to get all the facts instead of jumping on the media bandwagon.

This article should be a "must read" for all of the anti-Toyota crowd and some of the people on this forum as well. I love that the author even went into Hall effect sensors and took the time to explain how they work.

Correct me if I am wrong, I don't think our 4th Gen Four runners use this Electronic throttle system. Ours use the old cable to throttle air control.

No throttle cables in the 4th gen 4Runner....it's all electronics.

Devil's advocate here the Audi issue was not drivers forgetting which pedal they pushed. Unbelievable.

Numerous people died and Audi remains one of the most corrupt corps on the planet allowed people to suffer in vain.

Appreciate the post but the issue on the acceleration is not resolved with any fix so far done by Toyota. Hopefully the truth comes out soon and they can repair this issue.

Audi. Enjoy your handicap now. those guys are going straight to hell in my book.

There was a HUGE investigation on the Audi unintended acceleration problems. If I remember correctly, EVERY single car that was supposedly involved in unintended acceleration was torn apart and examined by investigators hired by the U.S. government. What I know for a fact is that not a single flaw was ever found with any of those cars that could any way relate to any type of unintended acceleration.

So how could it happen? Well, I remember reading a story about how this lady swore up and down she was absolutely standing on her Audi's brake pedal, but the car just kept going faster and faster. Now think about that a moment...sounds like she was stepping on the gas pedal, doesn't it? I believe the majority of Audi drivers who crashed and claimed unintended acceleration mixed up the right and left pedals. It happens...people make mistakes. That was the conclusion to the investigation as well. So Audi is not the evil empire here...they were a completely innocent victim of a blood-thirsty media and personal injury lawyers that were out to make a quick buck. You should really research this...I think you'll change your mind when you learn all the facts. There's a ton of info available if you just look for it.

Did you even read the article in your own link? Where does it say Audi was at fault or that anyone ever found anything that caused unintended acceleration in their vehicles?

BTW, you should really do your own research on the subject. I can find and post a bunch of articles/studies/news stories that are in support of Audi. But I won't, because that would be pointless. You can believe whatever you want and I'm sure you will, so why point out the obvious?

BTW, it is impossible to prove something didn't happen. The best that anyone can do is prove that something DID happen. So for that reason, the burden of proof is not on Audi because it is impossible for them to prove that it didn't happen. Yet somehow nobody ever managed to prove that it did happen. What really happened was driver error, not unintended acceleration. Everyone tried to prove it, but nobody ever did. Not once.

I can use Google too.

I read the links before I post them, though.

Don't confuse the official version with the fact that hundreds of people were hurt and many died. All of those were driver error according to the "official report". Don't be a tool Jed. think for yourself.

It will be interesting to see if Toyota can buy its' way out of this as Audi did.

Let me know when you are ready for more schoolin'.
