LOL on the talk trash part! LOl
really? Ill put Thegreenmonsters stock 97 up against your Trail Edition!
I really hope that the 2010 will be there with your 85 or my 96 toyota, but from what I have seen from the 2010, I just dont think so.
and maybe I havent really given the new kid a shot, but it feels so fake and cheap and plasticky... I really should drive one more, but The 3rd Gens are just SOOO good, I see them all over the road here in colorado and they all look and run great still! I just dont see the 2010s following in those footsteps.
And those are some BIG footsteps, but you know what, I guess you are right, only time will tell Happy driving! Im out!

please tell me exactly how your Trail kicks the snot out of the 3rd gen. i'm serious. if you want to make an argument, give some facts to back it up. while i disagree with Thai on this subject, he definitely gives me a good argument i am also interested in why you feel that the 5th will be so reliable. as i said before, the 3rd gen is proven and the 5th is too new to tell. i'm sure no one "felt" that their head gaskets were going to go on the 3VZ

the reason the 5th gen is better TO ME, over the 3rd gen......is that the interior is more updated... more buttons to press...more confusing dashboard look. more lights and switches..ya know?

glad to see you ignored everything good i mentioned about the 5th

Well, because a 5th gen member measured it at 9.6 and even had a picture of it!

happen to have a link?
i'm not saying i don't believe you...i just actually want to see it
however as you may know, the clearance to the rear diff is not as important as others when it comes to off road. as i said before, the rocker has way more clearance on the 3rd gen than on the 5th. i can't ever remember being hung up on my rear diff while i was offroad. however, i have gotten hung up on my rocker, gas tank, front skid plate, rear skid plate, rear bumper...front bumper more time then i can count.

In the same way, and by the same standards, put forth by the OP JohnsD90: subjective standards and opinions pulled directly out of my ass
I'm not knocking the 3rd Gen so much as the ignorance inherent in an argument based on looks and opinion. Steel might be more durable, but I'm never going to worry about my plastic bumpers rusting away. As for quality, only time will tell, but I've been in every generation of 4Runner made, and I LOVE my TE specifically because it's not trimmed out to be a pavement princess but meant for off-roading... and it comes with "training wheels" so those who are intimidated by going off-road will feel a little emboldened by it's extra features.
Anything that makes a 4Runner more capable and popular is a BONUS, and the Trail edition does just that... in this assh0le's opinion

Ok, lets take the driver out of the equation. What makes Thegreenmonsters stock 97 so special? Does he have a rear locker? Lets talk facts and specs of a vehicle, not assumptions nor opinions.

You accuse him of assuming that the 5th gen is as reliable as the 3rd gen, yet you assume that the 5th gen won't be. What is the difference between his assumption and yours?
4th gen 4runners were very reliable and durable, on par with 3rd gen. The 5th gen is really (as i have argued all along) a major facelift of the 4th gen with the same major mechanical components either being the same or improved upon. For example, the frame was strengthened, the rear diff got bigger, etc.. I really don't see how the 5th gen will suddenly go in the crappers in terms of reliability and durability. I really don't.

Nothing is special, besides the rack, bumper and 15k miles we have the same truck, he has no locker, thats the damn point, it can outwheel the new ones no problem.

That is a cheap comeback. What was your point again? So, your statement is that the 3rd gen is a SUPERIOR vehicle over the 5th gen, right? Tell me more. Simple request.
What does Thegreenmonsters showing up a lifted 4th gen have to do with this? Driver experience? How did he show him up?

Then, thegreenmonsters is an excellent driver.
But, no, you can't escape the fact that given two equal driver, a 5th gen Trail will be better off-road than Thegreenmonsters 4runner.
