Which 4runners come with the hood scoop?
This is my first post, I am sure there is a thread covering this, however I kept getting "no results" when I tried to search for it. What years and trim packages come with the hood scoop?
Thanks

Not sure if years have anything to do with it....maybe someone else can clear that up. I always thought all 3rd gen and up had the option.
Anyhow, the hood scoop came with the sport editions....now called the trail edition for the 5th gens.

Thanks. So was it just an option at the time of purchase and not a standard item that came with it?

3rd Gen 96-02, it was called "Highlander or Sport"
4th Gen 03-09, it is called Sport
5th Gen 10'+, it is called Trail
It is not an option, but an included item with the above "Trim Level" version of the 4Runner purchased. However the hood is interchangeable with a non-hood scoop'd hood, as the hood scoop has never served any functional purpose.

I thought the sport packages came with the hood scoop as well, I thought of this question while I was looking on craigslist. Most of the 4runners posted on there say sport package (and I can see the sport badging) in the picture that it is the sport package, but then it doesn't have a hood scoop. That confused me... I like the hood scoop look and this made me think that maybe they only came on certain years or something.

Scoops from the factory came on
'99-'02 Highlander/Sport
4th gen Sport Edition
5th gen Trail Edition
Hoods within each gen were all interchangeable and some people swap out hoods so you might see some discrepancies on some trucks.

4th gen Urban Runners also had the scoop. The Urban Runner was available for MY 2008 and '09.
I don't think I would consider the Urban Runner a specific trim level, but it was more of a "package" to me that put the UR between the Sport Edition and Limited. It merged the best of both worlds for buyers who desired features of both from the SE and Limited. It's very similar in concept to how Honda did the Special Edition Accords that went between the LX and EX models.

I wonder why I am seeing all these Sport Editions on craigslist that are 03-09 and most don't have the scoop?

I've noticed that some people list their 4runner as sport when it has the V8...that in itself isn't a "sport edition" 4runner. All sport edition 4runners have the scoop. I'm pretty sure that if it doesn't have a scoop, its not a sport edition. 99% sure that is...

Like someone above said, they may have swapped it with someone who didn't have the scoop but wanted it.
