the name has been around a while but the Corolla actually became the best selling car almost two decades ago. That's impressive since it took the original Beetle twice as long to sell just as many cars. Corollas are very reliable and even with the issue with the current Toyota lineup, Corollas usually aren't the cars you'll find on a recall list.They are definitely lacking in the character department but if you want a car is intended to do what a car was created to do- get you from Point A to Point B. Then it's darn near impossible to find a car that can do it as reliably as a Corolla. Corolla is the kind of car that you drive, your kids learn to drive in and when they grow up, your grandkids learn to drive in that same car.

I owned a 99 corolla. It was perfect for college because of the gas mileage. Plus they are cheap and run forever. I just passed mine onto my brother and I'm sure he will have it for quite a while.

I had a 95, gave it to my brother with 135k miles, he drove it for a while, sold it at 160k miles and all we did was just the routine maintenance.

Because it is a well-built vehicle, rather simple (inline-4, DOHC engine, front-drive, four-door sedan) in design & purpose and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to own, drive or maintain.

Notice how other manufacturers have tried to "copy" the concept. Look at a Honda Civic (another great car), the Nissan Sentra and even the Hyundai Elantra -- three other decent cars that each have their own following.
