Especially since things would get quite messy if you had to pop every jackass you meet.

Never had it happen on four wheels, but have dozens of times with the dirtbikes. People would come at us saying to go away when, like you said, we didn't seem to be in the wrong/trespassing/annoying anybody or anything. I guess some people like to think they have secret spots and don't like others at them or something. A few times we were accidentally on property but it's hard to tell sometimes if someone actually owns something, with no signs and nothing around.
Sucks when you're just trying to have fun, blow off steam and stuff like this happens.

If they use this area to dump dirt when working on roads, it may be owned by a construction company which may not like people out there. But if this was the case I would expect to see some signs. Regardless, people these days are just rude jerks. You find them everywhere. I get people yelling stuff at me all the time when I am out running. I mean come on, you are out for a run minding your own business and people feel the need to yell at you. I have even had some F-er in a pickup truck try and run me off the road. Even though I was on the shoulder in the gravel already he felt I should not be there and came within 3 inches of hitting met at 50mph. Bottom line, a lot of people out there just need a good smack. I suggest carrying a hammer. It’s not a weapon so the cops can’t do anything and if someone what’s to get up in your face you can knock them the F out.

If you come across anyplace in our area please let me know, and if i find something I'll pass it on as well.
Glad to see another DFW 4Runner owner.

Hey bigbsvo!
Thanks for the response I did find one place that's on my way home from work...pretty cool there are lot's of trails and seems to be no concearn to anyone. They are minor but there is one steep decent and climb through the a creek. If anyone has any info on this property let me know but I've stopped by there 3 times on my way home from work with no problems...just did some upgrades so might take it out soon...

Unless you are deep in meth lab or bear country I see little reason to pack heat. There's more chance of escalating a situation than anything else. Besides - carrying is just a pain in the butt all round.
I was a pretty darn good competition shooter back in the day - but I'm quite content to leave the carrying to law enforcement.
My rule of thumb is to only go off roading when I'm absolutely certain I'm allowed to do so and have an invitation from the landowner...and I take a buddy.

Fortunately he was not a cop nor was he able to follow the obstacles i just went through. I decided to get the heck out of there in case they were drunk or bullies. Well once I got on the road I looked over at him and he's telling me to get the F*** outa here! Now this fun little obstacle course is not restricted nor are there any signs. There are some neighborhoods bout 1/4 mile to the north and south but nothing near. Have any of you experienced this nonsense? It really got me thinking cause if I would have been by myself and the guy came about 10 min earlier and wanted to rough me up, well I would have had to use my 5cell mag light on him but really is it necessary to be so rude when there are no signs keeping folks out? What are ya'lls thoughts? Has this ever happened to any of you? If so what did you do or what happened? I would like to know so in case it happens again I can be ready...

The actual issue I see is that you were illegally offroading to begin with. Evidence of that is when you got scared that it may be a cop.
Look, I don't want to stand on my soap box and preach here, but we lose thousand of trails every year because of guys who wheel where they shouldn't wheel. Plain and simple is that YOU were wrong to be doing it to begin with, and unless you know damn well that its legal or have permission, then stay the hell out. You are portraying a bad image of the sport and even posting this shows that you lack in judgement. Period.
Wheel where its legal and where its posted that you can wheel. IMO, the guy in the Tundra asking you to leave was the only responsible one in the situation.

When i was a kid. A friends dad and uncle took a group of us canoeing down the Brazos river. The whole time they kept making Deliverance jokes, totally over our heads. Then one weekend i saw the movie. Holy cow, i would have never gone, had i seen that movie prior. Now that i'm older, my buddy Springfield goes with me.

True. While in Texas, with a chl you can brandish to thwart a threat.......However, if unknowingly on private property and you brandish the property owner. Bad things happen. You are completely in the wrong, and your going to spend a lot of money on a defense lawyer if there a shoot out. So peeps don't go waving your gun around.
Having a chl is more about conflict resolution. When wheeling, if this senerio plays out, private property or not. Do not get out of your rigs. Roll the window down. Pull a along side their vehicle or have them come to you if they chose to get out. Leave the vehicle in gear with a clear path in front of you. Attempt to have a discussion about whats going on. If your wrong then your wrong, apologize and leave. If they choose to assault you through your window. Mash the gas and head to the exit.
Now if they follow you off their property, ram your vehicle, run you off the road, start shooting at you. 911 your going to need the po to sort it out. Its more favorable to the da that you made attempts to avoid the conflict.
In most cases in Texas the property has to be posted. If not, then someone has to verbal warn you to leave for it to be legally "trespass". Provided your Not actively committing a felonious act on their property ie robbing, stealing, arson, drug dealing, burying dead prostitutes.
Always ask, if you can. Stay safe and never get out of the rig.

I dont know man on that one. Its awfully close to the airport. You have to remember, in Texas there's only about 2% of land not owned by someone.

That gun doesnt use clips.
Im all for guns, but agree with the few in this thread, that think this was not a scenario that called for one. Too many people have a false sense of security by carrying, and it definitely shouldnt be something you ever WANT to use.

People like you cause the rest of us problems. If it isn't your property or a place set aside for off-roading stay out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have about 1,200 feet along a public HWY. In the past the HWY dept has stored gravel, dumped dirt or gotten dirt (they dig you a pond for "free"). Just because the HWY dept is using it doesn't mean you have full access to it. The center median in many highways is very wide, that doesn’t mean you can wheel there either.

What does it use if not clips? It certainly isn't a revolver.
