My 4x4 car build: Toyota Integra TDI (half complete)
Hey people,
I don't spend a lot of time on here but thought some of you would like to see what I'm building. Toyota Integra TDI
I'm starting with the frame and drive train from a 91 4Runner (22re, 5spd) and putting a VW TDI in to it, and then replacing the body with a '94 Acura Integra.
Here's a photo chop that I made of what it might look like.
I've already got the engine and body mounted. Now I'm working on getting the engine running in it's new home and then all the engine bay stuff.
You also might be interested in seeing my off-runner. It's basically just a 4Runner with a bunch of stuff cut off. But I like it for riding the quad trails around my home. Off-Runner - Toyota Integra TDI

I'll be running either 32" or 33" tires to get the gearing to work right with the diesel and the 4.10 gears.

Overlooking the stuff i dont like, what motor are you using? there are quite alot of of 1.9TDI's to use but newer the motor gets the more regs it gets put on it. There's the 1Z AHU ALH BEW, and those are the main ones theres others like AFN ATD AXR AHF ASV AJM AUY ASZ ARL and im sure im missing a few. I suggest using the 1Z or AHU because they have alot less wiring (or so im told) and that will make the swap easier.

The AHU and 1Z have about the same amount of wiring as the newer ALH and BEW's. The advantage of the older motors is the lack of immobilizer. But even this is an easy fix with a custom tune to delete the immobilizer.
I'm using an AHU TDI that's got 67,000kms on the clock. I've got the parts to do a VNT turbo conversion (GT1749VA). With bigger nozzles and a custom tune I'm hoping to see around 150hp and 250ft-lbs of torque.

Skip the VNT 15 and the VNT 17, go straight for the VNT 17/22 its the VNT 17 but spools up like a 22 so more airflow, it has alot more power than the standard VNT 17. Have Jeff at Rocketchip give the stage 4 tune, but you probably have looked into all this already.

Yeah, I've done my research and looked in to the 17/22. I got my turbo new for $500 and a new 17/22 is $1000+. I'll stick with what I have and maybe upgrade in the future if I feel it's needed. I'm probably going with a Malone stage 3 tune. I don't want to sacrifice reliability with this project by going for too much hp. If I get 150hp out of the diesel it will be more fun to drive then my DD '91 V6 4Runner, and that's good enough for me.

Have you check out my site yet? I've got over 500 pics in the gallery.
I'll try to upload a picture later tonight of how it sits right now.

I would just take a 2.0 Clean TDI (140hp/236 ft.lbs torque) and fab it to use in a 2nd gen. 35-40mpg would be very achievable. Especially if you could do it in a 6spd
