Why is the 4 Runner a better choice over the Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I guess it's safe to say that the JGC is more luxurious than the 4 Runner but is the 4 Runner more reliable? Is the 4 Runner less expensive to fix in the long run? I am interested in either the trail addition or the Limited 4 Runner. I am just now starting to read about the different JGC options. If you know anything about them please don't hesitate to chime in.
Personally, I think Toyota makes a better car all around, but I have this feeling the Jeep is a bit nicer looking, can you help me make a good argument for the 4 Runner?

If you like full time 4x4, auto climate control and many more features the trail is not for you. The 4runner should be more reliable in the long run but for the same money you can get a very nice jeep.

Just go over the Jeep Forum and look at all the problems they have. If you want to keep the truck after warranty is up no way would I buy a Jeep. I have a few friends that have last gen JGC and they have so many problems!

There's few things I hate more than losing my vehicle for days on end to the dealer for warranty work. When SWMBO needed a new vehicle with strong capability in heavy snow, and top-notch reliability, the list is not long. And it had to compare favourably to a slew of Subaru WRX, STi and SpecB predecessors for winter capability, plus offer some better off-road ability, it came down to the FJ and the 4Runner. The 3rd row clinched it.
Admittedly, the Jeep is pretty nice looking and very plush inside. But it will be harder to live with over the long haul, requiring more maintenance/repair at greater cost and more lost time.
And you will have to hang out with Chrysler guys on their forum!

Cause Jeep sucks and Toyota doesn't.
Actually, because automobiles made in America suck and those made in Japan, don't.

The 4runner is one of the last true SUV's built on a truck frame with a live rear axle, no joke transfer case (or torsen for the limited) and a legacy of reliability, on road comfort, and off road performance in a stock vehicle. The current JGC has independent suspension, low ground clearance and a 4wd system designed to get Suzy Homemaker up her icy driveway and not much else. The comfy ride and nice interior can make you forget for a moment that you are still driving a Chrysler, a brand plagued with not just minor gripes but major mechanical problems (transmi$$ions, engine$$) extending across multiple product lines. The mini-van engine doesn't really inspire confidence, nor do the chrome wheels and gucci interior; kinda like they want to draw your attention away from the things that matter. You didn't really specify how you intend to use your vehicle but there is a reason why the new T4R has maintained its fundamentally truck like foundation and offroad capability hidden just below an otherwise urban exterior. My 4th gen is a beast, I love it, and hope that when and if it ever breaks, Toyota is still uncompromising in offering a body-on frame, 300k mi capable machine.

IMO, Chrysler is still playing catch-up, Ford and even GM have been making pretty good strides in improvement lately. I've rented a few Chrysler products lately, one of them was a 2011 JGC. This is the first Chrysler product that didn't disappoint me. Although the new JGC is a significant improvement over previous models, I wasn't all that impressed with the drivetrain (the one I rented had the V6). It's definitely got enough power to get up to speed and transmission shifts were solid, I just felt the engine and transmission in Toyota products to be more refined and offered better response; my rental JGC's throttle was not very responsive and always seemed a few seconds behind.
Some things I liked about the JGC: The interior is very nice although button placement on the steering wheel takes some getting used to (audio controls are behind the wheel); it's also got some features I wish the 4Runner had. On-road ride was better (independent suspension helps) and it was quieter (although the cheap tires were noisy over bumps).

I see you started two threads here on the subject today... lol - I'm assuming you asked the Jeep guys the same questions on their forum. I'd be very curious to hear what they're saying about 4Runners!
Please share..!
