Foxwing-style awning for $180+ship?

Hey guys (and gals), I'm hoping I'm not stepping on any toes here but I was looking into getting a Foxwing awning and came across this product.

Fox Wing Awning-Fox Wing Awning

I got in touch with them and they said that their minimum order is 30 units, but the total price per unit after shipping half way across the world would be around $180. As a comparison, CVT's equivalent product runs for $699 shipped. Full disclosure that they're over in China, made in China, it's Chinese product. But for a $500 price difference on a non-electrical/mechanical item, I'd be willing to take the chance. They mentioned all of the framing and hinges are aluminum and the fabric is a rip-stop poly canvas. With doing a pallet's worth of items it'd be a royal pain to ship individually, so I wanted to see if there would be enough interest locally (Northern VA, DC, MD) before opening it up to shipping domestically, but FWIW shipping form Northern VA to CA was quoted as $80 via UPS (Note: I originally mentioned this was $77 but I hadn't included tracking, so the total was raised to $80), so that's not even too bad. Either way if you'd be interested I'm happy to take your name down.

BOTTOM LINE: Would anybody be interested in putting together a group buy on it? I'm working on seeing what their sample policy is now and of course wouldn't require any cash until the order was ready to be placed. There's also a 1 year warranty on it, but not sure what that entails just yet.

They've also got a mosquito netting system available for $100 or a full canvas wall system that you can see on that page for $178. Not sure how shipping would be affected with those as there's a minimum order of 10 for those and wasn't sure if there'd be enough interest. Either way, if you've got any questions feel free to ask either here or via PM. Again, if the post isn't kosher, just let me know.

If you only want the awning its $180 + shipping

<-- only awning

If you want the awning and mosquito netting it will be about $180 + $100 + shipping(awning) + shipping(netting)

<-- awning + mosquito

If you want the awning and wall system that has its own mesh $180 + $178 + shipping(awning) + shipping(wall)

<-- awning + wall system

UPDATE:
We've broken 30! I'm still working on some final details with the vendor (shipping info on the nets/walls, official invoice, payment method, etc.) but here's how I was planning on moving forward. I'll give a window between now and the end of the month for everybody to paypal me the amount for their products and allow any last minute stragglers to jump in. IF YOU'RE NOT ON THE LIST AND STILL WANT TO ORDER - YOU STILL CAN!This way hopefully the inevitable last minute drops will be filled in by the last minute stragglers. At that point I'd put in the order and pay the vendor. Fast forward to the shipment arrival, we'll drop off all shipped awnings to UPS and set up a time/place for all of the local pickups to pick up their awnings. I don't want to "officially" take the next step until all those loose ends are tied up, but once they are I'll be sure to let everyone know.

UPDATE 2:
I'm still working with the import folks on getting the final price sent over. However, with keeping the window open we're hitting a moving target because the total amount keeps changing. I'll keep the list open until 9am EST on 4/27 for all those last minute folks that are still on the fence. That being said, I understand that everybody is on this list contingent upon shipping costs. Once the final shipping numbers come back there may be some folks that back out. If they do - I'll mark the spot as "OPEN" on the list and you can fill into their spot. Thank you guys for being patient.

Also of note: I've had multiple requests from folks to bundle orders together to ship from here to your address. When I checked UPS, it was actually more expensive to do it this way. If you find a cheaper method, then feel free to reach out and I'll see if we can accommodate the request. That being said, I'm not going to travel all over gods creation trying to accommodate 15 different shipping types. The awnings will be shipped in 100"x6"x6" boxes weighing 30lbs if you want to do your own research.

UPDATE 4/27: Alright guys, the window to sign up is officially closed. I'm going to send these final numbers over to the shipping company so I can get an official price on shipping. If you didn't sign up and still want an awning, I'll open up a wait list if anybody drops from their order.

UPDATE 5/12: Well, I've officially got the numbers. I'm sorry for the delay - I was getting hosed by the importing company I was working with originally. Quadrupled the estimate that they had given me initially. I reached out to another importer and was provided figures that were a bit more down to earth. That being said, the figures are as follows (I'm sorry the awning cost went up - it was a byproduct of the issue I had with the first importer):

Awning: $200
Wall: $200
Net: $120

That includes all of the shipping costs from China to Northern VA (Baltimore technically). There's only 1 portion that I couldn't get a confirmation on and that's whether or not they're subject to an in depth customs exam/inspection upon arrival. I'm doing everything I can to mitigate the cost but I may have to ask for an extra $5 per person if they come down hard. I don't anticipate this happening and I wouldn't know until they arrive, but I at least wanted to be transparent about the request.

With all of that being said - here's how I would like to do the payment. Paypal me the cost of the product and include in the following information in the paypal notes:

List Number, name/forum name
Product Ordered
Shipping Info (if you're picking up locally, just put "local pickup")

For Example:

1. svana, T4R.org
Awning

Joe Smith
123 Main St
City, State, Zip

At that point I'll put your information down and if I need to ship an item to you, I'll provide the quote for that as well (shipping via UPS).

My paypal is [email protected]. If you send via goods and services, please be sure to tack on the 3% fee. I'll provide a 2 week window for those on the list to provide the funds for their product. If I don't receive the funds by 5:00PM EST on 5/26, I will start reaching out to those on the waiting list. Shipping payment does not have to be submitted by this date, I will confirm a date once shipping time gets closer. As payments come in, I will note your name on the list with "Paid" next to it. If you don't see that come up after a day or two, just reach out and I'll confirm.

Again, thank you guys for being so patient with this.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Chinese products. I import/export products from China on a regular basis. Hell, 90% of the products we use in the United States are manufactured in China. "Made in USA", nowadays typically means "assembled in the USA". I see products sold by "made in USA" companies (not gonna name name's) at trade shows years before those companies start selling the items.
With that said, I've actually contacted several companies in China regarding samples of their batwing, foxwing, rtts. I receive several containers of products from there every month and would be able to consolidate the shipping with products I've already ordered. I will probably have a sample of a foxwing style awning in the next month and will do a full review of it. Still have to be careful when dealing with China. I always order samples before placing larger orders. Some companies/manufacturers are better than others.

Interested. Any idea how it would bolt up to the stock roof rack?

Nice find. This company is legit, I've looked into their RTT tents before. Those are also pretty cheap (if you group buy, you could get it as cheap as $350-400 after shipping).

Here's the AliBaba link for more pictures/info.

Interested if these would work with 5th gen hatch. I don't think I've seen one with a batwing awning before.

Hey guys. Ya I first saw it through Alibaba and contacted them there, this page just had more action shots of it. I'll see what they say about the samples and get back to you on combining shipping. What port are you going to?

Viper, I'm not sure. I think you'd need a more stable platform than the sport racks that come on it...

Croddy, I think you'd probably bump into the awning. Not sure as I'd just considered pulling everything I needed through the window lol. It does look tall enough to MAYBE clear the hatch. They said the height is 195cm so about 77". I've never measured how much height is needed for the hatch though.

EDIT: Sorry I was looking through tapatalk and thought the thread was on ExPo. I've asked those guys as well.

Viper, stock roof rack of what vehicle?

Croddy, assuming you're talking about a 4Runner I think you'd probably bump into the awning. Not sure as I'd just considered pulling everything I needed through the window lol.
my containers arrive in Los Angeles, as that's where I'm located. I order everything from medical goods, bee hives, Led car lights, etc. I usually have the manufacturer send the products to companies I have good relationships with and they pack the containers the best way possible.
I'm also in talks about hard shell rtt. May get a sample of that as well for review.

What would be the rate on one of those hard shells?

I've found them from $400 to $1000 depending on size, materials, etc. That's not including shipping costs.
https://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...838.0.0.2XaNvK

Like I said earlier, I always pay to order a sample of the product before purchasing in bulk. I also make sure the manufacturer has international patents on the products they sell before ordering. More often than not, the "popular" rtt companies will order all of the parts from these manufacturers, setup an assembly plant in the states, and slap that "made in USA" stickers on them. Not all, but most. Doesn't justify the $3k -$4k prices, if you ask me.

Agreed. I was looking at their soft shell ones, those are going for more like $300-600, depending on quantity. I was thinking I'd try to order one like that for my roadtrip next year. The cheapest you can find one here stateside is like $800 + tax (REI 20% off sale).

My buddy checked on those fox wing like awnings a month ago, it would have worked out to be around $300 per item shipped to Dallas with a minimum of 5. The thought was to sell them for $400 each, but decided not to due to shipping from Dallas to others. I would like to buy one of these items if anyone hooks up a purchase. Also interested in the rtt's, but not sure about the hard shell ones, I want a 3 person setup.

I'll let you guys know what I think of the sample I get from the company I'm in talks with. If the price and shipping pans out, I'll order 10 sets or so for anyone interested.
I also have some great shipping rates with multiple carriers in the states. I can contact my rep and get some domestic shipping quotes based on size/weight. Shouldn't be an issue.

I'm also in talks about hard shell rtt. May get a sample of that as well for review.
I'm in for the bee hive group buy and medical "goods". *wink wink.

Hey bud, If you don't mind starting another thread for looking at that stuff or other buys I'd appreciate it. Trying to keep the the thread streamlined.
