Why would a locked front cause breakage over a non-locked. I would think it would be the other way around??

BTW I thought about a SAS but getting back into the T4R I just dont want to lose that ride quality.
Unlocked front, yes it can have more wheel spin, but the spinning tire doesn't have traction, its never wedged against something.

With a locked front, if you have a tire wedged between two rocks or under a ledge, it can snap. Locked diffs can actually transfer power unlike unlocked diffs.

I've always thought that if/when a spinning front tire does find traction (unlocked rig) is the reason they frag vs a locked rig getting traction.

Guessing you can find scenarios in both setups where CV's take a chit but I will defer to the experts who actually wheel with IFS. I know SFA shafts/ujoints go when under a ledge too.

They can, but typically when one tire finds traction the power gets transferred to the other side that has less traction so it protects the CVs a little that way when unlocked.
