Progress finally. Coming along for the first time even touching a welder. Too bad I work tonight or I could probably finish, now itíll wait until Sunday!

can you explain a little how it was. I don't have a welder and never welded before but I love the lines and the clearance of the bumper.` I want one but I am getting 1k quotes to have it welded together so I am more than likely going to go another route if I don't some up with a plan.

Ouch that is a really high quote for welding a front bumper! Feel free to email me at info@coastaloffroad.com if you'd like some more info on welding or any of the other aspects.

One thing you can do to reduce the labour that you're paying for is to pre-remove the stock bumper ahead of time for them so they can begin assembling and welding the bumper right away. Removing the stock bumper can end up being surprisingly time consuming with all of the tiny screws everywhere.

Did you weld it while on the 4Runner? I take it there was no splatter?

Yes I did. You mostly tack everything together on the car and then do most the big finish welds off it. The finish welds you do have to do while mounted are away from the body panels so no worries there.

As far as welding, for me personally it wasnít hard to get the hang of it. I managed to weld it all without blowing through any of the steel and have strong welds. Theyíre not the prettiest, but Iím gonna leave them be. I was gonna grind them all off to clean it up but I think itíll be a good conversation point when people ask about the bumper. The thing that helped the most was watching YouTube videos honestly. Sounds weird but you can get a very good general idea of where to start. Good luck!

Also $1k is ridiculous. I was quoted between $200-$350 but got my welder for less than that so decided to jump in since Iíve been wanting to learn anyway.

I was told by 4x4 shops in my area they won't touch it since it was a kit and the few people that I have talked to said 800-1k to weld it together. I did talk to a company that makes sliders and they said they could do it for 200-500. So I might have it shipped to them and have them do it. I am trying to talk the wife into a road trip to CO, if I can convince her to do it I will order one fore sure. The lines and how clean it looks make it one of the best looking bumpers to me. I am all about clearance and this one seems to have the most. There was another one in the running the 4x4 labs front bumper but for 1700 I can get this one, have it welded and get sliders and possibly a winch. I just wish Coastal was in the US or I lived closer to them to save a little bit of money.

What welder did you buy?

I found a Lincoln SP125 Plus (MIG and FCAW) for $100 on Craigslist. It worked but needed some love. All in about $300. No regrets.

I might have Dot_Tom weld it up for me, he knows what he's doing.
