I actually had a 06 4 runner limited on order before I test drove the GX. With the recent gas prices, the GX's price is really coming down, just last year, the GX was going for $2000 to $4000 over invoice. I got my GX with comparable option as the 4 runner limited for just about $5500 more, a deal that I just couldn't resist. Most dealers are selling the GX from $0 to $500 over invoice now, which makes it really hard to justify buying a loaded 4 runner limited. The Interior, the quietness, those amazing leather seats and the smooth ride is what really sold me on the GX. The GX is well worth the extra $5000 in my opinion.

Is that what you got yours for or did you even beat that?

I went to the Detroit International Auto Show recently. When I sat in the GX, the center of the roof seemed higher. But the sides of the headliner come over your head a little, which makes it seem less high at those points than the 4Runner. I was very surprised that the headliner was designed that way.

The GX looks a little too high, giving it the appearance at times of being top-heavy. That would be okay if it gave you the headroom, but the headliner concels this benefit.

I agree, it looks too tall and skinny.

what in the world is the "convenience package"? All i remember (well could have changed), it's either you order a GX:
1. w/o third seat (very rare)
2. w/3rd seat
3. w/3rd seat & RSES
4. w/3rd seat & Nav/ML
5. w/3rd seat, RSES, Nav/ML
6. All options, but include Sport Package

Although I can tell, the GX definitely has the headroom that the 4Runner can never give. Quietness, and fit and finish is better in the GX vs. my 4Runner.

personally i think the 4runner defines what a SUV should be.

i consider the GX urban SUV. its not something you take in the woods and chase bears with.

and the height differences makes a huge difference.

sure the 4runners doesn'thave as much headroom than the gx. but that what makes the SUV quite versatile.

you can drive it like a car, you can haul with it like a truck, you can save gas like a 4 cyl car(60KMPH @ 800 RPM)

AND MAintenance...CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP

THIS IS SO FAR THE EASIEST SUV I HAVE EVER OWNED. and i'm an auto tech.

techs are known to drive shYtboxes cuz they don't have the time to fix their own cars.
meh i'm blabbin tis 5 am i'm fallin asleep

True but it seems that the regular maintenance of the 4R (oil change and tire rotation and balance) is about the same as the GX(estimated of $60 for each vehicle). Only big $$$$ difference is the 30k, 60k, and so on. Speaking of 60k tune-up, it's a grand spankin $1000! :FOS:

But this is almost comparing oranges and tangerines. Almost the same thing, but not quite. To some people, headroom really counts. To some, it doesn't matter. Heck, I was comparing the Pilot with the 4Runner and the only thing that swayed me towards the 4Runner was that it's Japanese made, and that it's quite similar to my GX. The Pilot had a generous headroom but it wasn't made in Japan, and it's a FWD based vehicle.

true true - but i gotta say

at least the 5spd v8* runners doesn't need transmission service compare to the pilot*

and also the 4runners comes with greaseable u-joints. unlike most "awd/4wd" vehicles.

one thing that suprises me the most bout the 4th gen runners is that..

when you're hauling something (trailer, auto transports, another truck) the engine rpm doesn't change much. its like driving in normal condition..

of course, if you do decide to get a 4runner, make sure its the v8 and its the limited edition with the towing package. the rear self leveling suspension is a GODSEND....

i like the reinfoced frame rails on the 4th gen. runners. i took it offroading the first week i got it, i ended up on 3 wheels...amazing how much the travel on the suspension really is!

just imagine this..

the front fender was basically 1" from my rim thats a lot of travel! (17" rim)

i better post pics when i find that pic.

no doubt,

i'm keeping my 4run. got it with 3km 2 years ago. and i've ran mobil 1 since then. i'm at 55 000 km as of right now.

uh... i actually wanna get another one. and make one a "winter eater" not a "beater".

i'm blabbin here..coffee anyone?
