I agree here - to me the biggest hit is on fuel. If you're doing city driving, the fuel consumption is a beast. I'd say it wins in every other way for everyday driving.

I know this is a bit late but my dad has a 2008 GX 470 and he had it since it was brand new! It has 200k now. I do have to say that he always uses the dealer for service and it is very expensive. Every 5k miles oil change so it is very well maintained. Oil changes are around $110. We did have to replace the ac coils and some other ac components which cost $3,000! This was at around 150k miles. Remember Lexus OEM parts like the airbag suspension are pricey since the car is relatively rare and not many aftermarket alternatives. I have a lot more details but long story short... this car is quite expensive to repair if you are not doing some of the work yourself. We have all the service records too if you still are curious about repair costs. Also it rides very well... similar to a Mercedes SUV. Again, fantastic ride quality and the cabin is quiet. Hope this helps

Hey,

I'm thinking of buying a GX470 to export to Guatemala. The GX wasn't released here though so I'm worried about getting parts.

The Land Cruiser Prado, 4Runner and FJ Cruiser are all available in Guatemala, is there enough of a crossover between the engines and frames etc to make it worth bringing a GX to Guatemala?

Thanks for any help

As I just got my GX470, I am replacing several parts. When I went to advance and picked up several things, the lady working there commented how reasonable the parts were for a lexus. I replied that it was basically a fancy 4runner, and she agreed.

Thankfully most parts are the same, and can be had at a reasonable price.

I should have replied to yours with my last post. Yes much is the same. The 4.7L engine was used in a bunch of toyota/lexus vehicles for over a decade. Many other things are interchangeable with the 4runner like aftermarket skid plates and whatnot.

My mainteance and repair cost so far with 16 months of ownership. Bought with 130k miles, now have156k. I pretty much daily drive her. Not including oil changes or the 1 set of tires that I put on which will probably go 60k miles before they need replacement. This was a well cared for truck with a pretty good service history.

1. Battery upgrade to AGM - $180
2. Front Centric premium rotors and Akebono performance pads - $160
3. Diffs and Transfer Case fluid change - $120
4. Trans fluid exchange with filter - $340
5. Wheel well splash guard rubbers - $60
6. OEM Denso reman Alternator and belt - $240

This was the minimum to keep her running well and to be assured that it has good fluids. Of course I've spent about $1400 on some small cosmetic fixes, upgraded HID headlights, wheels, hitch and such to make it useful for my purposes.

At 160k I'm going to do the timing belt, water pump, etc which will be about $400 in parts.

Those prices don't seem UNreasonable by any means. Sure you bought some high end parts but I'm sure you did that because you wanted high end parts. Thanks for everyone's replies, feel free to comment more!

I apologize, my last message said "reasonable", I meant to say "unreasonable"!

Totaled my 3rd Gen T4R and just bought an ‘04 GX470.

Dude, Even if the maintenance is more, it’s worth it. This thing is so much nicer to drive. I have one with equal miles to my T4R and the ride quality is 10x better. My girlfriend loved my T4R but she is so impressed with this rig. We are driving down the highway right now and she caught herself going 90 mph and we couldn’t even tell.

It’s stock, minus the rear coil conversion, but I’m going to start the build on it. Gotta do some research on the best way to maintain this driving comfort.

When you changed out the suspension, did you notice much difference in the way it rode? I’d like to lift mine ASAP, but I like the comfort of the way it rides stock. My T4R, even with a $2k Sonora Steel lift, didn’t ride nearly as comfortably.

Sorry for a very late response. But hopefully for others this is helpful.

I immediately felt it firm up, no more loose suspension, made the truck honestly feel like new again. It wasn't as dampening as I hoped, but regardless definitely refreshed. I am happy with the Moog and kyb combo for the money.
