Drove a ‘2022 GX460 today. Some thoughts while I consider going back to a GX:

So….. I currently own a ‘20 TRD pro. Previously owned a ‘16 GX 460 for about 3 years and then took the plunge on my first 4Runner.

I’m thinking of going back to a GX for the following reasons:

1. I moved to approx 7k above sea level 6 months ago. I drive 3 hours down to Phoenix and back up to the mountains where I live about twice a month. And may occasionally drive all the way to CA on longer drives every couple of months.
The lack of power on the 4Runner is driving me insane coming back up the mountain.
I’ve looked at all options and the only one that would be viable would a magnusson supercharger. However, as some of you know, magnusson hasn’t released one yet for ‘20 models and beyond, and no one knows if it’s happening any time soon. A power upgrade is important.

2. I’ve been considering a rubicon 392, but after this last long distance drive, I don’t think I could put up with the wind noise for that many hours on a drive. I plan on light off roading with the capability to get to where I want to hike, kayak, etc, but without doing a ton of serious rock crawling. We have tons of trails to get the truck dirty up in AZ, which I love.
But I doubt I’m headed to Moab to get in serious rock crawling any time soon.

3. I’ve been considering a bronco as well and would wait for the raptor more than likely because I would love to desert race. However, Ford needs to work out some kinks and who knows how delayed the raptor will be.
Plus wind noise is going to be a similar issue to that of the wrangler on long drives.

4. The GX finally has Apple car play with some great safety features.

So, in thinking about going back to the 2022 GX, here are my questions:

1. 8.1” of ground clearance isn’t enough. So I want to do a 1.5-2” lift but don’t want to negate the factory warranty. Is that possible?
If not, what are my options to fit some 33” 285-60-18’ AT tires (thinking of some Falkken AT3’s or the new Toyos). Some spacers only?
I don’t know what if any limitations there are with KDSS and getting a lift that lexus will approve/be ok with.

2. Any factory approved tunes available to up the power just a bit? Might do a tune and exhaust swap if possible.

3. My plan was to simply get the premium edition as I wanted to steer clear from the air suspension on the luxury, and don’t need the added features. I figured it would be better to stick with coils and do the lift.
But …… if that isn’t possible, am I better going with the luxury package and getting the extra off road amenities that comes with it?

— I know value retention won’t compare to my trd pro 4Runner, but I’ll likely go with the black line edition with the Nori green, as I think it will hold its value a bit better as it will be fairly limited production. But even if that doesn’t happen, it’s not the end of the world.

I am mostly useless answering your questions but I did just trade my 21 TRD pro for a 22 Nori black line GX. My understanding is that your warranty can’t be voided unless it’s directly related to the modified part. So I wouldn’t be concerned at all. I am leaving it stock height and putting toyo AT3s on tomorrow.

I’ve jumped around a lot to say the least last few years. 16 pro, 18 pro, 18 LC200, 19 LX, 21 pro now this GX haha

I only left the LX because I yolo traded it for a 911 when the pandemic kicked off then grabbed a pro for stuff the 911 couldn’t handle.

I’m very happy to be back in a truck with a more refined engine and just overall better build quality. I wanted the LX600 but it’s a tough pill to swallow when I paid 76 out the door for my 19 LX and the new one will likely be 90+ without discounts.

I would go for it 100% it was that or new tundra for me at this budget. Check ih8mud for lift questions.

Thanks man.
Yeah the differences in ride are night and day between the GX and the Trd pro ….. in terms of comfort, cabin noise, and just overall refinement. The GX is a luxury truck for sure.
I paid $52k for my 2016 GX460 back in sept 2015. Now I’m looking at $62k without much in the way of discounts if I go that route.

Like you, I would get the LX570 instead — or better yet the LC that we can’t get in the US— but the former is too pricey and I don’t like the re design anyway, and the latter isn’t available.
