There has to be an error somewhere by Toyota that nobody has caught yet. The Lexus GX in Canada is listed at 329 lb.-ft. @ 3,400 rpm whereas the GX is listed at 329 lb.-ft. @ 3,500 rpm. Worldwide rating for the Land Cruiser 200 4.6 use the 3,400 rpm listing.

There is also an error above, inside the Toyota Tundra manual that is included with the actual vehicle, the bore and stroke is listed as 3.70 in. x 3.27 in., so there are bunch of errors as you can see.

My guess is that the 4.6 is identical in either the Tundra or the GX.

The reason being is minimum Octane in the rest of the world is 93, where as in North America it's "watered" down to 87. I guess they (Toyota Engineers) are too lazy to tweek the ECU to take the lower grade fuel.
Horse Puckey!! The reason the minimum octane is 93 in most of the world is because it's measured differently. 87 octane fuel in US/Canada is exactly the same octane as 93 octane in Japan and Europe.

Old but not sure if people saw this

I know this is an older post but i found this in the manual. Also my wife is 100% sure that running regular won’t hurt the vehicle at all... 🙄

Guess I’ll just fill it with 91 and dump in a fuel cleaner/additive once in a while.

This is up to you to decide what you are comfortable with.

I have run regular in my GX for years now with no problems.

My wife's MDX, on the other hand, will very noticeably knock if you put anything less than 93 octane.

Over at clublexus, there are several threads which discuss this ad-nauseam. The fact remains that this is the same exact 1UR-FE that's in the Tundra, which recommends regular, and is actually rated to make more horsepower than the Lexus GX. The comparison is even clearer when it comes to the Landcruiser vs LX570 which again use the exact same engine, same part numbers, etc.

You'll find that the consensus on the LX570 forums seems to be that regular is fine, with just a handful insisting you need premium, whereas consensus on the GX460 forums is that you need premium, with fewer who think regular is fine. Seems like the wealthier LX guys like to save a few bucks and put regular in the tank, whereas us upper-middle-class GX drivers think we need to protect our investments with premium gas. Go figure.

Again, do your own research, make up your own mind. Personally, I like saving the ~$15.00 per tank.

25k on my 2017 GX460 and always ran 87 octane cheapest gas. I average 18mpg, zero issues.

So I’ve been running regular pretty much since we spoke last. Mostly filling up at Costco. Runs fine but there is a little difference in power. Not a huge issue as I’m 80% of the time just driving the kids around the town to school or such. I don’t see a difference in MPG bc I’m idling a lot.

What’s your take of resetting the ecu? I’ve owned the vehicle for maybe 4-5 months. I did not do this on the Lexus when I first bought it but I’m pretty sure it’s learned my driving habits by now.

I have never reset the ECU, however I have disconnected battery/swapped battery though I do not believe that resets the ECU. You'll lose your settings but if you've only been in it 5mos that might not be a big inconvenience.

Lots of traffic really kills the MPG in these things but running regular can take the sting out of fillups.

Personally I have seen zero difference in premium vs regular. However like you I'm not giving it the beans very often.

It's not that it won't work, it just retards the timing a little to compensate...

You loose a little performance to accommodate the fuel. Not ideal, but it will work.
