"Original" California Duster

I just bought one of those "Original" California Dusters for my black Sport. Anyone else have any experience with these? I haven't had a chance to use it yet because it says to leave it air out for 48 hours on newspaper before the first use. Pollen really kills the shine on black and if this thing will save me some time wiping her down everyday then it will be worth the $15-$20.

Hey I just bought one too. I bought the white plastic handle one because it was on sale (i forgot how much) at pepboys. which one did you get (plastic or wood)? I didn't know we had to leave it out on newspaper for 48 hours. Sounds like it'll end up collecting dust... . Thanks for letting me know!

Yeah I got the same one with the white handle from Advanced Auto. I'm not sure exactly how much I payed either, I just know it was between $15 and $20 . Another thing I read on the little pamphlet was it says that the first 2 uses may leave light streaks because of some kind of wax that's in the cloth threads. It says it won't do any harm to the paint though, I guess just wipe it off if it happens (hopefully not). I'm not too sure what the point of letting it "air out" for 48 hrs is but if it says to do it there must be some reason. Looks like we'll both find out how well it works around the same time .

yea I heard about the wax also. I hope it's only for the first two uses. If anything, you can just hit it with some quick detailer and wipe it off. I have a black truck so I'm more worried about rubbing fine dust/dirt particles against my paint. I rather dust it off, and then use quick detailer.

i've used a california car duster for years! i've had mine for about 5-6 years and it still works pretty well. it's great for light dust and pollen. just don't try to use it in the morning when the paint has some dew on it, it will smear.

it's coated with parafin wax. i hear on dark surfaces it may streak during the first uses, but use it on a cool surface in the shade and it should be okay.

i have the california mini duster too, made for the interior. it takes me literally seconds to swipe the dash, center console and door panels and it's dust free. i think there may be more parafin wax on the interior version because it will definitely smear on the paint if i try to use it on the exterior.

Great! Looks like it was a worth while purchase then. I can't wait to try it out. I haven't seen the mini one anywhere yet, that would be nice to have. I'll have to keep looking I guess. I've just been using a microfiber towel to wipe the interior. The duster would definately be quicker. Thanks for the reply's guys!

Off topic: I just noticed under my name was changed to senior member with only a little over 100 posts . Must change after one hundred I guess. I need to put up an avatar too, looks naked.

I have had one for years too. Works real well during the dry season here in Cali to clean up the dust and pollen. Really lenghtens the times needed between washes.

The more you use it, the better it works! Mine left waxy streaks until it was "broken" in. I use it a couple of times a week, between washes, I love it!

I finally used it the other day and it works great!! A friend of mine warned me not to use it on black because he said it scratched his car. Not sure what he was talking about because it worked perfectly for me. It works really well after a fresh wax job, slides smooth as glass. Pollen beware, the duster's out to get ya!

The OCD is one of the best investments I ever made for my truck. I go to school in Marietta GA, and the pollen is a huge problem. After cleaning my truck on the weekend, it had a yellow tint from all the pollen. The OCD takes all the pollen off in no time. I would recommend it to anyone that lives in areas with similiar problems.

I have one (my 3rd one) that's blue with a gray handle and I got the mini-duster with it and they both work like advertised and are great when you need a quick "dust off".

I'll chime in too-

my experience has been great too- its been very dusty lately out here without any rain, and this is a great, 2 minute way to clean up the truck between washes. I have a smaller one for the dash which is great too- I get a lot of dust and dirt coming in through the moonroof, and this does a great job of cleaning it up between armor-all treatments.
