Angry Help I dont know what to use!!!!!!(PIC)

Ive had this problem since I bought my Runner. As you can see in the pics it looks as if something was spilled on the sliver pop up part that holds the trash stash? Ive tried to clean it with soap and water. I dont want to hurt the finish of the plastic...anyone have any experience with anything like this?

Never seen anything like that before. If you have had it since owning the 4Runner, I'd try to get it changed under warranty.

Can you give a better idea of the texture of the spots? Sticky? Rough? Oily/greasy? etc.

You might try something like Simple Green, 409, Fantastic. Be sure to try the non-abrasive cleaners first. Meguiar's used to have a product called Clean, Shine, and Protect, but they have replaced it with something else -- maybe their NXT products.

Desolve-It, it's sold at Walmart in the house cleaning dept. Everyone should have bottle of this stuff, it is AMAZING and safe!

I think it's an 03-05 thing only.

I have that same trash lever on my 05. Don't really use it ever. Looks like it might be degrading the plastic. you could take it off and spray paint it black or grey.

I wondered what that thing was. Thanks for the pic.

Its on the back of the center console. I have an 07 SR5.

Looks like something ate into the paint, I'd just sand it lightly and try to dust some new paint on it

It looks like the clear is gone. That would be a good idea just light sand it and spray some satin clear and it will look new again.

Try using toothpaste, it's a gentle dissolver that won't ruin the finish and will take up most stains.

You could try to use (CLR) Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover is a powerful formula that quickly and easily dissolves and removes tough calcium and lime deposits as well as surface rust stains.

If you mess the finish up I would go with th he majority and have fun painting it. Ebay might even have a new one if needed. Nothing stays perfect forever anyways so it's a good lesson in that respect. The plastic might wear out but the engine keeps on ticking! Good luck.

Smile I was wondering what that was...

We're almost done rebuilding our 06. I had to take the centre console out to replace the parking brake cable (wow what a job). I reached along the back of it to grab the bottom to lift it out and the plastic piece swung up on its hinge. I thought fleetingly, "What the heck is this?". Then I lifted the whole thing off and promptly forgot about it.

Thanks for solving one mystery for me. Now if I could only start a thread so that I could ask my question...

Might want to use a auto motive light sand paper to see of that clears the stain of top of the plastic or even simple green is good but that looks like a water stain from something acidic that trash bag holder seem like a good way to mood it into a table for the back passengers instead of a trash bag holder.
