Long Road Trip - Pre trip maintenance ?

Hi

We are planning a long road trip in about 4 weeks, approximately 4000KM. I have a 2005 SE, with only 1200KM on it, it has not had any service yet.

Is there any service that you would recommend getting before leaving on such a long trip ? The dealer says not to get the oil changed before 5K, but I would prefer to change it before leaving.

Any suggestions ?

thanks,

Re: Long Road Trip - Pre trip maintenance ?

You shouldn't have any problems... Enjoy the trip.

I'm taking a 6,000 mile round trip in a week and a half from San Antonio, TX to Vancouver, BC, Canada and back (along with a lot of meandering to different places along the way) and about all I'm going to do at this point is change the oil before I go. I already replaced my serpentine belt, which had a little wear, rotated tires, etc...

I'll check tire pressures, change oil, and enjoy the drive.

I have a 2003 SE with 54k miles on it.

Your choice on the oil change. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but that's because it's not needed yet.

Just check the tire pressures and tire conditions, then have a great time.

did you replace the serpentine yourself?
How much was it? Was it easy to replace?

Yep, did it myself. Very simple to replace. I had my wife hold the belt on one of the pulleys while I put it on the rest of them, but other than that it was a piece of cake.

It cost me $24 for one like the Goodyear Gatorback (made by Dayco). I get a 'shop' discount at Advance Auto Parts. It would have normally been about $36 for that belt.
