Dealer suggested maintenance...rip off?

Bought my 4runner used in September 2012 and got a free year's worth of oil changes, inspection, etc. Had it in today for an oil change/inspection. Tech reccommended to change all filters, fluids, coolant as part of 105,000 mile service interval. They wanted $195 for that. I forced the dealer to change the coolant before I would buy it as that seemed like the only big thing on the next service interval. Brake fluid and p/s fluid were last changed at 65000 miles from previous owner - they wanted $235 for that.

When he totaled it up to over $500 for everything I laughed. I declined all of that and instead have a total bill of $40 for the emissions test portion of my inspection. Realistically, when should I be changing any of these fluids? I'd rather do them myself and save some coin if they need to be done.

Changing any fluid depends on how much and how hard you drive the vehicle, conditions, etc. But they all need to be replaced periodically. Coolant and brake fluid every few years. Engine and trans much more frequently.

Thanks for the input. I spoke with the service rep from the dealer that serviced my truck for the previous owner. Turns out the brake fluid was changed at 80,000 miles. I already had the service records, but just a summary, so I knew for instance that the oil was changed every 5,000 miles, but not what was done at the "major service interval" appointments. Looks like the p/s and trans fluid has never been changed. Truck just hit 104,000. Service rep said 100k is the normal recommendation for trans and p/s so I'll probably take care of those items next time its in, brake fluid should be good for another 40,000 miles, and coolant is good until 200k. Ahh the beauty of synthetics... I dont tow or abuse the truck in any way and don't drive aggressive so I think I'll be fine with those estimates.
