If you don't have the right tools or have never done anything like it before...yeah can't touch the price!

Me on the other hand...yeah I'll do it myself.

My question, is there any preference among this forum on brand of belt kit? I am looking on Rockauto and am more than happy with buying the $212 Continental kit with tensioner, or if Toyota is substanially better who is the prefered supplier(or just buy the Aisin kit from RAuto)? Similar question about a serpentine kit OE, Gates, or Dayco?

Thanks guys

Its Time

DavisTN, thanks for that good post. Its time for me to order parts and like you, I do not look forward to the task. I replaced the timing chain on a Toyota P/U I owned several years ago. Bought the parts and snuck into ex's garage to do it while she was at work. Got it all tore down and discovered that the parts store sold me Chevy 350 gaskets. Had to wait for ex to get home to borrow her car and go buy parts to finish the job. She was pissed but I loved it. And I got the truck reassembled properly.

Thanks again.

I just finished mine this morning, using the Aisin TKT-021 kit which I paid $240 for at BMA. I later saw that Amazon sells the same kit for $175. Doh!

The timing belt and most of the components removed or inspected in the process looked pretty good. Two notable exceptions would be the water pump, which was leaking at the gasket, and the serpentine belt tensioner bearing which was very worn and spun a bit rough.

Service done at 93,500 miles.

The work isnt hard to do, it just a lot of stuff you have to take apart to get to it! Me and a friend did mine one evening, things went smooth for the most part, just a few busted knuckles.

I've been following this guide recently as well and couldn't find the .doc either. I believe that's because its a 6 year old post and the attachment may have gotten screwed up over the years.
