Has anyone tried 3M spray on Paint defender?

I'm very curious to know if anyone has any success using this relatively new product from 3M.

3M Paint Defender Spray Film with synthetic wax - Sprayable Paint Protection Film, 90000 - 3M Auto

It is suppose to create a scratch proof film that you spray on to your painted areas.

It would be ideal for off roading where trees/brush encourages onto the trail.

Seems to be a perfectly clear tool dip type product. Application instructions are the same.

But here is a hundred reviews from good to bad:

I am also sorely tempted, those paint scratches are annoying! ;)

Hmmm, not sold. Even more so after seeing the negative amazon reviews outweigh the positive, never a good sign, even assuming most of the negs. usually don't know what they are doing.

I supposed if you were treating it like most plasti-dip jobs, using in small quantities and small areas, like badges/emblems/grills/door handles maybe.

Anything spray-on, unless applied professionally, I think you are a gambler or just asking for trouble. Even the guys that plasti-dip there whole cars run into problems here and there. From my little experience, removal of plasti-dip, it peels off pretty easily.

Stick with a vinyl wrap IMO

Ive used the 3m defender on several different cars. Its a great product for cheap! Proper prep work is the key for it to turn out good. On my G8 i removed it after a year to see how it came off. Came off super easy! Dont be afraid to spray it thick. Not too thck though. My G8 that I sprayed it on is a very dark gray color. The lines were barely visable unless pointed out. Clear Plasti Dip is no comparison to the 3M defender. Plastidip clear resembles the windows of a smokey bar compared to 3m. I was a hater of it till I tried it. Now it will go on all my stuff that worth putting it on. Watch the videos and do the proper prep and it will look like a pro job.

Hey Mr Roo,

Thanks for the quick review. So in summary Plasti Dip > 3M paint defender?

Exactly opposite is how I read it. 3M Paint Defender > Plasti Dip Clear.

The 3m is much better than the Plastidip. No comparison. Crystal clear vs. a smokey bar window.
