Tire rotation, 4-wheel drive light came on

Hi there, first post. I have a 2008 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 SportsEdition.

I just rotated my tires (moved front to rear - same sides). After I rotated them the green 4-wheel drive indicator light came on in the dash and won't turn off.

Any idea why? This is my first time doing this myself.

If it's just the 4wd light (which I'm not fully familiar with since I have full-time 4wd) it sounds unrelated to the rotation. You probably just hit a button accidentally.

Not likely. My 4wd is a big knob I have to spin to engage it. And I didn't touch it.

Enlighten me on this "full time 4wd". You have this on a 4runner? Is it just an automatic switch or is it 4wd engaged all the time?

I assume it's not related to the rotation because only the 4wd light is lit up.

V8 4x4s have no 2wd option due to having no auto disconnect front diff. 4 modes instead of 5. Transfer cases are virtually identical to each other.

That is strange coincidence. Try cycling the 4WD selector knob into 4H and then back again, see if it goes off.

Check the wiring connections to the transfer case and also the front diff, make sure everything is clean.

Also check the very top side of the center diff unit, there is a small breather line that can crack and/or pop off, and may let water/moisture in. This has caused corrosion in the past for others and sometimes causes the system to act on its own, lights go on, etc.

There should be no relation of 4WD system to Tire Rotation procedure. Can't see any solution.
