For those interested in the Toyota OEM filters, I'm currently running a special (for most applications) of $3.29/each if you purchase a case of 10.

I use Toyota filters, though I was wondering if Wix makes filters for Toyota 4R's?

Here's a link comparing alot of oil filters with cutaways

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html

I'm partial to the Purelator pureOne filters or the Mobile 1 version.

Double you filter capacity

I have been using the Fram orange filter every 3k or so, but now I see this one ranks at the very bottom in testing.

What has aways irked me was how toyota could put this dinky filter on a vehicle (V6) that has tons of room for a normal sized filter. I just noticed that the PH3614 style filter I have been using has the same thread/gasket as the larger PH3980.

The PH3980 is twice as long so probably twice the filter surface area and twice as long before it starts bypassing, as all modern filters will do when dirty. A $10 Mobil 1 filter will pass just as much crud as a Fram filter if its bypassing.

I don't know which vehicle the PH3980 is filter is normally recommended for but I'll bet you can find a match in your favorite brand.

Where did you find such a test?? The results would be greatly appreciated!

I bought 20 OEM filters two years ago.

Maybe they're not the best but I know that they meet OEM specs.

I was with Purelator Pureone filters but im now worried that while towing my camper I run the eng- at much greater revs esp when im going up steep hills and im worried more about the flow rate or GPM rate and im thinking the Pureone may be a little to restrictive. So im switching to either Wix or OEM.

The dealer told me to only use Toyota filters to keep my extended warranty valid. It sounds kind of flaky to me but it's okay with me.

I just switched over to a fully synthetic oil. I made the move to Pennzoil and FRAM oil filter.
Two different applications listed the same oil filter part number for both the V-6 and V-8 model engines. The FRAM filter is smaller than the Toyota filter. But I have NEVER had a problem using either FRAM oil or air filters. Pennzoil has never failed in my aluminum 4 cyclinder with over 250,000 miles on it. No sludge ever!

Please note that the ticking noise in my V-6 engine got a lot quieter when I made this switch. I don't know if it was the smaller oil filter circulating the oil faster, the move to a fully synthetic or a combination of the two. The valves are not as noisy as before.
