Lesson learned-2003 V8 coolant change

I decided to change my coolant today. I got out the shop manual and drained the radiator and block as it described. I thought all was going well until I went to refill it. It only took 8 qts. instead of
13. I ran the engine and it was up to temperature and seemed fine but I could not figure out why it did not take more coolant.
The shop manual under the coolant change section just shows and says to loosen the drain block plug which I did. The manual fails to mention there is also a drain plug on the other side of the block. This is why I did not get all the old coolant out. I guess I will just leave it as is for now. I only have 19,900 mile on the 4runner and the old coolant looked like new. Just a heads up to anyone who might be changing their coolant.

why waste your time changing your coolant when you only have 19k miles on it??

No harm done, he just did it 10,100 miles early. Better early than never at all (like most of my friends would do) He could also tow or run the t4r in harsh conditions, which may warrent an early service.

Yes, that's a bit early to change your coolant. But keep in mind that he has an '03 model. Your '04 model is factory filled with the long-life coolant that is good for 100,000 miles.
