Correct oil for me -- 5W30 or 10W30?

I am just done breaking-in my 2006 SE, currently at 1050 miles, and I am planning to do an oil change soon. From a lot of posts that I read from here, Toyota recommends 5W30 oil. However, I live in Hawaii where we don't have extreme cold or extreme hot weather (temperature never go below 55 degrees F and never go above 99 degrees F).

So, should I use 5W30 as recommended or 10W30 isntead?

By the way, I am going to use Mobil 1 synthetic oil and OEM oil filter.

I don't see any reason to not use the 5W30. You'll probably get (very) slightly better gas milage, experience less start-up wear and tear on the engine and ensure Toyota can't deny you warrenty coverage on the off chance that you have an engine failure.

Personally, I wouldn't use anything else...

It's known that most engine wear (70/80%) occurs during start-up regardless of temp. Using lower weight oil provides faster circulation of oil at this critical time. You still have the same protection when the engine is hot. Actually Toyota is now recommending the use of 5W-20, so M1 0w-20 may be the ticket. When Amsoil makes a 0w-20 I will switch.

That is news to me. I talked to me dealership service dept today about motor oil/first oil change and they didn't mention anything about that.

use the factory recommendation of oil. the "thicker" the oil is, the larger the molecules are in the oil. With the 4runners oil clearances being spec. at .0009"-.0024", id say you dont have much room for thick oil...

I was at a local O'Reilly auto store today and decided to take a peek at the motor oil aisle (after reading this thread and the 5W-20 TSB). They actually had some Ford Motorcraft brand 5W-20 synthetic motor oil in stock. A 5qt jug was $12.50.

Since I am about to break 1,000 miles in my new 2006, I might give it a shot. The price seems better than I expected. Am I missing something?

That's really cheap for a synthetic oil.
