Was 65 degrees other day so decided to rotate tires on '03 SE. Have 17k miles and try to rotate every 6k so was time. Not sure if I included spare last time or not but did this time. Was amased at the amount of corrosion on the surface of the rim. Around the edges of the spokes the coating was bubbled up. Taking just a finger nail removed it and the white powery corrosion underneath. I live in VA not the frozen north so havent experienced much road salt. I guess its from water sitting on the rim for some time vice where it gets washed off the ones on the car. How do I treat these bad areas? I'm thinking to lightly sanding off the corrosion and finish there and either apply wax or Mother's wheel polish. Or perhaps touch up with clear Krylon spray. Anyone else have this problem? I had the OEM alloys on my old 2nd gen 4Rnr and after many years the clear coat flaked off and turned yellow. I used paint stripper to remove it all then spend many, many hours sanding and finally rouge buffing the wheels --- they looked like chrome but had to be polished again every 6 months (and now with my daughter having the car in WV with no care they look like dull silver painted wheels).
