Skid plate Removal for Oil Change?

Hey guys!
I just came from one of those "fast lube" places (Yea, I know - I was in a hurry!) and for the first time this particular place removed the skid plate on my '05 Sport V8 2WD to get the oil filter. I told them it was never removed before, most of the time when I watched then oil filter was removed from the top.

The thing I have heard is if you keep removing the skid plate for oil chagnes, the parts wear and the plate starts to rattle.

What do you guys think?

well i have a 2000 v6 and i havta take my skidplate down to take my filter off because #1 the oil will drip onto it when the filter is removed and then dirt and shit will get stuck all over it making it weigh a thousand lbs, #2 its a tight fit, i broke one bolt off for it so far it does not rattle, just make sure that nobody over tightens your bolts like i did

I've done a change on the V8 now, and I don't have any idea why or how they would get the filter off from the top. But I can see them bending the skid plate a little bit to get at the filter from the bottom without removing the skid plate.
They have to put the truck in the air anyway to drain the oil, so bending the plate and reaching in seems more likely to me than pulling the filter off after putting the truck back on the ground.
Without question, the right way to do it is from underneath after removing the skid plate. Otherwise, you'll have a huge mess.

Nah...try to do everything you can.

I don't trust & want anyone to touch my whip. They are going to get it all greasy & they don't care for it like we do. Don't want it back w/ kinks & dents.

I've had the skid plate off probably ten times. No rattles and I don't see any reason why it should rattle. Good strong screws.

I remove the skid plate but I did change the filter one time from the top without remving the skid plate. It makes such a big mess it is not worth it. The old oil gets in the skid plate and drips for about a week. You will not have a problem with the bolts.
