Fluid fill check 4th gen A/T - oil temp detection mode

The A750E/F A/T fluid fill service instructions indicate shorting terminals Tc to CG of the DLC3 connector as a step in entering the oil temp detection mode to reach proper operating temperature when checking the A/T fluid level.

Can anyone point out these terminals? Where's Rando these days?

Has anyone actually done this?

I have a 2003 and a tranny dip stick so I can only tell you what I know about mine.

The tranny AFT level is checked when the engine is at operating temperature. This is because fluid expands with increasing temp. So it needs to be checked after driving it around and the thermostat has opened. Then the gear shift selector is moved to each position (P, R, D, 1, 2, etc) Then with the engine running and the vehicle in the Park position, the dip stick is removed and the AFT level should be in the HOT zone.

I realize yours does not have a dip-stick but I thought it may help somehow.

Excellent - I have the needed information!

I have 16L of the WS A/T oil and plan to do a fluid exchange through the cooler lines when the weather warms up. I plan to first pump out and replace the oil in the sump using a hand pump, and then do a 2 liter piece-meal drain&fill exchange through the return line to the heat exchanger. I will use graduated milk containers to keep track and balance oil going in and coming out, to never let the sump go dry.

Isn't it a little early to be doing this on an '05 or do you have a lot of hard miles? If you don't tow then save it for later because it is long life fluid. I did mine at 80K km but I don't have the WS.

I just flushed my tranny on my Jeep using that exact same method. I circulated 14 quarts thru her. I found that the tranny pump discharges at a slightly faster rate than I can pour in the AFT thru the dip-stick tube. So I would stop the engine at intervals in order to catch up.

I will have approx. 60,000 miles when I do this A/T fluid exchange. I do tow but it's not really strenuous towing.

I plan to keep my 4Runner for 10 years, 250,000 miles and I think fresh trans fluid at 60,000 is good insurance - notice I didn't say cheap insurance

Thanks for all of your help here. This is a good forum with good attitudes.
