Coolant drain plugs for V8

Does anyone have a picture of all the drain plugs for the V8. Should I use the Toyota long life antifreeze coolant? Also will it be ok if there is still a little of the old green coolant in when I put in the new coolant.

I do not have a picture but you must drain both sides of the block. You do not actually remove a plug. It is more like a fitting on the side of the block with a little metal tube. You just loosen the screw and the antifreeze runs out the metal tube. They are towards the rear of the block. You can attach a rubber hose to the fitting to make less of a mess. Drain the radiator and both block drains and there will be very little antifreze left. I used original toyota long life antifreeze. It is pinkish colored.

Thanks, I will check tomarrow for the drain plugs. It is really strange that there is now the green fluid in there now. It seams that when I bought the 4runner new it did have the red coolant in. Must have been the mechanic when I did the 30k and 60k. I will now put back in the Toyota long life coolant.

It cost $ 19.26/gallon at my dealer. It is concentrated so pick up a gallon of distilled/ di-ionized water from the grocery store to cut it with.

If you want a full change in fluid, then change it twice. Drain it one weekend then drive it a week and do it again the following weekend. That way you replace most of the coolant.

There used to be kits that allowed complete flushing of the coolant. You just cut a hose, inserted a T-fitting, then screwed a garden hose in it. Remove the thermostat and turn the hose on, engine running. The liquid is ejected from the radiator cap (kit included a tube for that) and when it ran clear you were done. Then drain the engine and radiator of the hose water and replace it with a blend of distilled/coolant 50/50. I don't think many people do this anymore
