Mobil 1 vs Castrol Syntec

I use Mobil 1 in my 4r and Castrol Syntec in my Honda. Every time I change oil, Mobil 1 drains realy dark and dirty looking while Castrol in Honda comes out clear looking even after 6 month in engine. Both cars driven about equal amount of time. So what gives?

I don't think you can draw many conclusions. Try the M1 in the Honda and the Castrol in the 4R and see what comes out. Different engines place differing demands on motor oil, so its hard to tell you what might be going on.

you just cant judge them by the colors they appear after 6 months, do a used oil analysis on both and that would tell you more about your oil.

I get realy offended by some recent Mobil 1 advertisement ploys such as: SUV and Truck formula or High Milage Syntetic. WTH, isn't oil been main ingredient makes no diff what formula it is it still good ole 5-30 syntetic oil. Here is more: 5 quart jar of Mobil-1 is $21, but same 5 quart jar of SUV & Truck formula is $28. That's just plain insulting. Is there a dummy that pays that much more for same stuff with maybe a drop of some detergent crap? But back to the topic, yes I'll send it out for analysis. I'll keep all posted here.

I stopped using M1 and switched to a Castrol blend. When using M1 I too noticed the oil black on a drain. I always planned my oil change when the maint light came on....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't black or dark colored used oil means that the oil did its job by removing contaminants from the engine and other internal moving parts? Since Mobil1 comes out darker, then isn't it absorbing/removing more contaminants than another motor oil that comes out lighter?

Color does not mean anything. I think Mobil 1 will come out dark out of any vehicle. I used it in my V6 Acura, it came out dark. Get an analysis if you are worried.
