Rotten egg smell

Hi all - does the smell of rotten eggs while driving up hill always mean you need to replace the catalytic converter? Other things I can try first? My 4Runner is a 2003 with about 130,000

TSB on sulfur smell for V8 03-04 4 Runners

sound also be acid leaking from the battery...but that wouldnt happen only on acceleration
