98 4wd 3.4l driver side needle bearings

So i had my driver lbj fail on me as i was going to pick my new ones from the post office. i replaced driver and passenger on the side of the road then drove back to my house from about a tenth of a mile. i noticed my driver side tire had a pretty good vibration so i took off my wheel and noticed a .5-1 inch gap between the inner cv joint and trans. my axle will not slide into place and upon looking inside the trans, my meddle bearings are shot. i was wondering what would be the easiest way to go about relplacing it?
