4.0 V6 - how many quarts of oil...

hey all,

i just did my first oil change on my 4.0 v6 4runner. i couldn't find in the manual where it mentioned how much oil to use.

on searching around the web i found that the oil capacity of that v6 is 6.4 quarts.

after putting that much in - the dipstick reads like there is way too much oil in the motor.

how much oil is that motor supposed to take?

thanks, f.

It's in the manual, Section 8: 5.2 Litres, 5.8 quarts, with filter change.

I change my own oil and I have found that it takes almost exactly 5.5 quarts (including the OEM filter).

I suppose a variance of 1/2 a quart either way is not going to be fatal for your engine......but I am anal about keeping it between the "add" and "full" mark.

I've changed my v-6 oil about 15 times and each time 5 quarts filled it up. Any one else seeing this [lower] amount?

5.5 quarts with filter change, using the 90915-YZZD3 filter. IIRC, it should be 5.25 quarts without filter change.

13 or 14 changes here. same as Uneek. 5.5 quarts every time with the V-8 Filter.

I have also seen the same spec you mentioned. 6.4 Quarts. But I have always gone by the manual.
