One word of caution, when you're doing the rear axle, there is a heat shield has a sharp edge. Be careful pulling off the fitting as I cut myself pretty good.

too late, i slightly cut my knuckles. thats is why, it is better to position the zerk downwards, its safer to pull the hose.

are all M1 grease the same? color coded?

Why am i having a hard time, taking out the hose fittings off the zerk? am i doing something out of the norm?

I've only seen the one and in terms of specifications from what I've read, the separate grease types has been dropped from the more recent manuals.

Thanks to this thread, i was able to do DIY it, though it takes me longer than changing oil but its a good learning experience.

I dont know how much is left on my grease gun, can i just leave the grease gun as it is or do i have to take the tube out?

I left it as is and it worked just fine the second time. I don't think all that much grease is used each time. Should last a while.

Buckfever, just wanted to say thanks for this thread! I was able to do this last night with ease, thanks to your instructions! And I've only had this truck since Monday night!

Thanks to this site, I was also able to flush and replace the differential oils and transfer case oil. All Mobile 1, as described in this thread.

Thanks guys & gals!

Does anyone know what the pressure limit is on the seals in the driveshaft? When I lubed mine I only put 2 shots each for fear of blowing out the seals. It only worked for a few days before the 'clunk' started again. I know it needs more grease but I don't want to overload it.

I just went to my local tire shop this morning for a rotation and asked them to hit the grease fittings. When I picked it up, they said there weren't any and aren't on a lot of newer cars, but they lubed the u-joints and other areas of the drive shaft.

As I pulled out of the parking lot, I called my local Toyota service guy and he said "I don't think there are zerks on the 03s"

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Perhaps I just have bad service advisors in Ohio. Thanks!

Nevermind my stupidity. I climbed underneath and located all 6 with my own eyes. Either these people are stupid or they thought I meant a chassis lube.

I just did the task. EZ to perform but a PITA without a lift.
The Mobile1 grease being pink makes it EZ to locate excess and
to see if the seals are bulging with grease.
Slowly squeeze the grease gun to minimze excess bulging.
Just turned 5000 miles on the 07' so it was time to hit em'

Another great thread!

I joined the club today. I bought the grease gun at Autozone, flexi hose, and of course, mobile1 synthetic grease.

Thanks everybody for the pics & advice - again!

Brad

I like putting the whole vehicle on stands so I can easily rotate the drive shafts to perfect position and get the whole thing done on one crawl. Just gotta remember to put tranny in neutral and no parking brake.
