Thanks, I hear the SuperPros are super high quality. Working on the daily driver can be stressful, which is one of the reasons I decided to to this now. Working from home, I don't need to drive anywhere and could get food for a week if needed while the 4runner is down. Of course, this isn't viable for everyone.
It is going to cost less than high quality LCAs, but I paid with my time. Not including the cams, since I would need those regardless, I think I'm in about $220 and 12 hours for both. Not too far in raw cost from a pair of 1a auto or Moog LCAs haha. Mine are hopefully the worst case scenario coming from PA mostly, so the time could certainly be cut shorter for those in warmer areas or using a spray rust reformer instead of POR15

My question for everyone though is cost. Looking at good bushing, ball joints, etc. this is about 325$ in parts, plus your time. The Superpro LCA's that also help with camber (indirectly) are only 610. Not sure I can justify that cost difference.
Does underline how suspect something like the 1A Auto LCAs are though. They cost almost the same for the whole LCA as the price of the good bushings.... which is not a good sign for longevity.

Thanks haha I tried to be as detailed as possible! After researching, I still didn't find much to help me going in, so I wanted there to be some sort of documentation for others to know everything upfront.
The cost and time is definitely something to consider. For ball joints and bushings, I'm in about $220, and around $350 with the OEM alignment cams. For time, I have about 12 hours into completing both sides. This includes taking 350 pictures, mine being suuuper crusty, and meticulous surface prep. I ended up with better parts than Rock Auto ones, and it kept me from being bored on the weekends, so the time was worth it for me. Of course, the time justification will be different for everyone. The cut out and bolt in option of the SuperPros is certainly attractive.

Oh yeah, the entertainment value is infinite right now xD.
12 hours given the condition of yours is actually pretty great. Can't fault you, and I've been in the position where 350 is much better than 610. The super pros come with alignment bolts and cams I believe, which are actually supposed to be pretty good.
I've got to do mine next time I do lots of things to the front end of mine. Not urgent, but will need to be done. Your instructions are very timely, as this process is not as bad as I was afraid. I might do a bushing repair, but keep my old cam bolts as they are in good shape. Just the bushings need some love.

Yep, I've been coming up with a long list of projects for a quarentined summer. I'm planning to strip and paint frame, replace cv thats beyond cooked to reboot, fuel tank straps, Dobinson's, new tires. Pretty much stock now, so it feels like the time to dive into off-road mods.
The process is definitely not that bad, and I'm jealous of you're not seized cams!
The time flew by, since I was having some fun and it was broken up of 2 weekends. I almost feel like the crusty-er the bushing sleeve, the easier it comes out. This is what was left of the super crusty one thats at the beginning of the bushing removal step looked like after needle scaling all the loose stuff, it practically fell out with some gentile prying. Kind of scary to think that thats what was keeping part of the suspension together

Thanks! She is a tad crusty, but thankfully no frame holes. Thanks for the help on my question post from earlier, hope you can get your Whitelines installed sometime soon!

Nicely done sir! You should get Senior Member status for this write up. Getting all those pictures with description in there with the right format isn't easy.

Thanks, that means a lot! I have learned so much from this forum, so this is a way I can give back to the community. Writing this up was also a good way to keep me busy and out of trouble, so that's an added bonus! I'm glad the level detail seems appropriate, I was worried that it was going to be information overload.

That's exactly what it's all about!! Pay it forward brother! Never too much info on a task this difficult either. I have learned a ton about vehicles in general on this forum, let alone the 3 different gens that I own. I've been wrenching as a hobby and money saving endeavor for 30+ years and I'm still learning on here every day.
@ momo.75
this thread should be a sticky in the maintenance section, and maybe a Senior Member tag for
@ y=mx+b
lol. This is one well thought out and meticulously done thread.

That's awesome, I love reading this forum and absorbing every bit of knowledge that I can! I got into the wrenching recently to save money too, and I am really enjoying it. While working on the LCAs, it clicked in my head that 90% of jobs are bolt off/bolt on, which opened another world of possible projects for me to work on. I figure I will try to get some similar documentation out for most of my projects, extra information out there can't hurt.
I would be honored to have a 4th gen maintenance sticky, I'm game for anything that can help others easily find the information they need!

If you do, I want to see the pictures, post them up here! I think mine were original at 210k, but I'm honestly not sure. I have dealer records up to 150k that don't show anything with LCAs or suspension in general. I think I still might be on the original shocks, I dunno haha. Hopefully I'll be changing them out with Dobinson's in the future.

It is stuck! I did move it to the maintenance section. I still have my stock LCA's as well so I will be utilizing this thread as well. Thanks for all the documentation!

Thanks for the sticky! Hopefully it is helpful when it comes time for you LCA bushings! I'll change over all my in-page linking so it doesn't redirect to the 4th gen section and then back to maintenance again.
Is there a collected thread of 4th gen specific maintenance anywhere? I'm planning on doing some more writeups for some maintenance items, maybe collecting some writeups is something I could work on?
