Cleaning Smoke Smell From Steering Wheel

I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of the smell but it isn't getting much better. I recently swapped my torn up old 3rd gen steering wheel for a 98 Rav4 from a junk yard, but didn't notice the smoke smell.

So far I have tried standard interior cleaners, Simple Green, and even water/vinegar mixture. Nothing seems to help.

I like the look of that steering wheel! How involved is the replacement? Is it a job for a noob?

edit: never mind saw your other thread!

Yeah not very hard just rent a steering wheel puller.
It takes about 10 or so minutes.

Have you tried using an ozone machine? They were $50 or so pre covid on Amazon. Not sure how available they are right now but they will work wonders!

Bought the cheapest/highest rated one on Amazon I could find. Worked great. I ended up needing to do it twice. First time I ran it I sat it on the center console and it work well but after allowing it to air out I still noticed a slight smoke smell right on the steering wheel. So I ran it a second time this time on a box on the drivers seat pointed right at the wheel. The wheel smells almost new now.

I can only give a few options. I would just buy me another steering wheel or go to Harbor Freight and buy a steam machine. I use one for mobile detailing and it is great to clean all parts of your interior. Also try an ozone machine. So you are 100% sure it is coming from the steering wheel?
