It really baffles me that many of the new cars / trucks have 100k plugs now and we still have to do this every 30k. For those of us that drive a whole lot, it matters. Anyway, I have seen some previous threads that indicate that there are 3 of one type of plug and 3 of another. Should we reuse the same 3+3 combination or simply get 6 of one or the other? What brand and model plugs are the 3+3 type. Are they pre-gapped? Thanks in advance.

The V6 didn't come with iridium plugs so they have to be changed. I think there is an iridium replacement so you should only have to change them every 100K miles after that. Use all the same plugs. I was told that Toyota used 3+3 because they wanted to insure that each supplier was used equally.

Just get 6 Denso ones. That's what Toyota uses now. Pick them up at parts dept. I just changed mine @ 36 month and 25,000 miles. Believe me, those could go fo another 3 years or 60,000 miles. I think Yota guys are been overcautious with current intervals.

You can get the iridium, but I don't thnk they're worth it. Sure they'll last a lot longer...but ever try to pull a plug that's been in a car for 100k miles?? Also pulling a plug and inspecting them is a good way to determine if something is amiss.

As for which plug to use...Denso or NGK are fine. I prefer NGK. Had problems with Denso plugs years ago (back when they were called Nippendenso).

I changed the plugs on my '04 V6 LTD last month with the Denso Iridium IKH20 / 5344. My 4R has 62k miles on it. I haven't been driving a whole lot recently so I don't have enough data to show any improvement in mileage, but it does run smoother and is slightly more responsive. I got them for just under $12/plug from sparkplugs.com. I know some of you would think that it's a waste of money, but I think they're worth it if you factor in the 100k change interval. The IKH20 plug has a .4mm center electrode versus the SK20HR11 which has a .7mm center electrode (should last up to 200k). The regular copper ones have 1.1mm center electrodes. There's research data online showing how iridium is far superior to platinum and copper. I'll keep you guys updated as far as mileage differences.

p.s. - sorry I forgot to take pictures of the new plugs b4 I installed them. It was a hot day and I just wanted to get it done quickly.
