Cabin Air Filter
I changed my cabin filter last weekend (for the second time) when I turned over 31,000 miles. It was not very dirty, but did contain some small pieces of leaves and some bug parts. It takes less than five minutes to do it yourself, so I would recommend looking in the owner's guide and following the directions. Just don't forget to put back the 'damper' thing that allows the glove box door to open more gently.
The stealership's parts counter charged $23 for it, which I know is a huge rip-off....as that thing can't cost more than a buck to manufacture. It was almost the same price at both Advance Auto and Auto Zone, but they did not have any in stock and would have to order one for the next day.
:cursin:
Anyway, I would suggest doing it every 15k miles or perhaps once every 18 months -- perhaps more often if you live in a dusty area or use your A/C all year long.
My lease is coming up on its expiration and my 4Runner will soon go up for sale. I love it and will miss it, but I am in the mood to get something else. I have kept it up nicely, maintained it well and cleaned it often - so I should get a decent price for it.

In case you guys dont know...someone posted making a cabin filter out of a home heating filter (20x24 will result in you getting 4 filters out of it!) I do this for all the time for my car, and since you can buy a filter for $15 ay home depot and get 4 filters, what a deal!
You just place the old filter on top of the household one, trace it with a marker, and cut with scissors. Works great everytime. I also get the really good Filtrete filters, so they filter even more crap out of the air (I have bad allergies). I also use this to make cabin filters for my wifes 2003 Honda Accord.
Trust me, it couldnt be easier!

Border411, can you share more information how you changed for accord, if you have any pics that would be great.
BTW i used much cheaper air filter (~5 bucks from home depot) and changed it 3 months back, still works good.

I also use the Filtrete filers from Home Depot and cut them to fit.
These filters do a MUCH better job than the standard Toyota filters at a significant cost savings.

I was looking at BMW X5's. There is no dipstick. Only electronic monitoring.
IF you don't trust that sensor to not fail and cost you a motor (A $7000 motor) you can pay the dealer to drain your oil, measure it, and put it back.
$80 please.
F'ing insane.............

It might be insane, but the BMW takes synthetic and more of it. So less frequent changes necessary.

I too have used the furnace filter a couple of times now. It works great and is super cheap compared to buying one already made for you. You can cut a lot of smaller filters out of that one large furnace filter.

My pushrod was not connected to anything either. Look on the pushrod and there are two holes on a little bracket, and those line up with this "male" push pin thing to the right inside of the glovebox compartment hole. I connected the pushrod to that, it fit, and closed the box. No problem.
