Red In Coolant Reservoir, Green in radiator

I just found out about the dreaded mixing of trans fluid, and coolant.

The radiator has green in it, but it looks reddish in the reservoir. Is this bad news? Or not necessarily?

The previous owner I bought it from claimed she flushed the radiator out (not sure what process was used).

Toyota OEM coolant is either red or pink, whereas most other brands are green. So, it's probably pretty safe to say it's not trans fluid. There's debate about mixing the Toyota coolants with other brands, but it's not anywhere near as big a deal as having the totally wrong fluid in there.

Ok, I don't have my owner's manual available right now -- If I do a flush of the radiator, how much coolant will I need for the 2UZFE?

If I remember correctly, 2 gallons? Do you guys get your coolant from the Toyo dealership, or have you gone with other manufacturers (Prestone, etc)?

Sorry Hk_405, but I figured we may as well kill two birds here...

Toyo dealership for the fluid. They'll know if one or two gallons is correct.

I would drain and run a couple of times. Distilled water is so cheap and if you have nasty water I'd buy some. Study the Toyo antifreeze carefully. If it's not pre-mixed you'll need some distilled water for mixing. EDIT: Just read my own post The new Toyo fluid will be pre-mixed. The grocery store has it.

This may help:
[i]COOLANT REPLACEMENT

1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
CAUTION: To avoid the danger of being burned, do not remove
the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are
still hot. Thermal expansion will cause hot engine
coolant and steam to blow out from the radiator.

(a) Remove the radiator cap.
(b) Remove the service hole cover from the engine
under cover No. 1.
(c) Install a vinyl hose onto the drain on the radiator
side.
(d) Fix the vinyl hose with tape.
(e) Loosen the 3 drain plugs on the engine and radiator,
and drain the coolant.
(f) Drain the coolant from the reservoir tank.
(g) Tighten the 3 drain plugs.
Torque: 13 N*m (130 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf) for the
engine
(h) Remove the vinyl hose from the radiator.

2. ADD ENGINE COOLANT

(a) Slowly fill the system with engine coolant.
Capacity:
12.3 liters (13.0 US qts, 10.8 lmp. qts)
HINT:

I wouldn't worry about it. There's an overflow for the reservoir.
